Petey essentially doesn’t have the will to ‘get into the fight’, which is what Linden was saying Petey needed to do, everyone says it, media re-iterates it, but apparently everyone is just lying and making stuff up, even though a Canuck legend, who should have no grudge against Petey, can easily see that’s the case.
This is a video more on McKenna (which really should be more of a discussion point too) but I just found it very fitting to Petey and perhaps this whole core in general. Not enough sticking up for one another, not enough doing the hard things to win games etc.
There was an interview with Petey in his rookie year where he said « If I’m remembered as just a hockey player I’ll consider it a failure ».
At the time I was like « what a consciencious young dude that wants to make a difference. »
Now I’m kind of like « maaayybe he meant he was going to use hockey to do things more important to him like having a sick Insta and not put everything into hockey. »
It’s different now than it was in the 90s. Players will play at 50% once they get that big contract enough to help their family and secure their future. If they don’t have the dog in them anymore, that’s how they’ll play for their entire careers. Some people, especially in Pete’s case, where every day seems like a war zone, just lose interest in the game and see the dollar in it. He also has a trophy wife with expensive taste, so that probably fuels him to just be good enough for the money.
Patterson is only good when there’s nothing left to play for. Then suddenly he goes off and scores a bunch of points and people think he’s back. I’m over it
Get this guy to a good psychologist.
Edit: Not at all joking

instead of looking up to Sundin and Forsberg, Pettersson patterns his game to Pewdiepie.
I know this is a Petey post but this illustrates all of my concerns about Mckenna to a tee. I don’t watch Will as much as I used to, though I really should again given we’re going to be prospect watching for a few years, but I wonder if he publishes his ranking accuracy. He seems like the type of guy to do so
The boys dont hate to lose
Does he have less passion than before? Sure but not really sure if I buy into he doesn’t care with the way he sacrifices to blocks shots. His knees are fked and I think even he knows he ain’t the same player anymore
But I will say a red flag with his seemingly non existent relationship with the Sedins
I love Petey and was his biggest defender, but this is the player he actually is. The player who signed 11.6 got very lucky at the perfect time. That Petey is never coming back. He will be an excellent third line all situations player on a better Canucks team.
Accept it and move on.
Then can we get rid of him? Like I’m sorry, I am of the mindset that if they are here I cheer for them, once they leave I don’t. I genuinely do not care to whine about situations I cannot control and this management group seems to cause half of the drama surrounding this guy. If he doesn’t have the work ethic, that sucks! Let’s move on with the rebuild and let him go for pennies. If he’s too good to trade for what’s being offered, keep him! God knows we’ll have the cap space for the next couple years.
I do not understand this organization, media climate, and fanbases absolute need for negativity. If you can change a situation, change it. If you can’t quit crying about it.
I recall stories about Pettersson’s development referencing *hours* he spent on the ice working on individual skills. Him and his brother had unlimited access to the local rink, and he took full advantage.
I’ve always felt this explained his issues. He has differentiated himself from competition solely by the benefit of his skill-set. He feels most at home in environments most similar to playing alone of an open sheet of ice.
When space gets taken away, and when the pressure ramps up, he has a tendency to struggle. His confidence falls, injuries pile up, and issues begin to compound. I believe this is where we find Pettersson today.
If you put him on an open sheet of ice I’m sure he’s the *almost* the exact same player he was during his 100 point seasons. When things are coming easy for him he looks *very* good. The issue is things haven’t come easy for him in a very long time.
I wouldn’t say its a lack of willingness, or a lack of awareness. He’s just a one-dimensional player. It wasn’t an issue early in his career, but as teams focus more on him and game plan around him he becomes easier to contain.
What is this subs bipolar takes on Petey lmfao. 2 goal game all praise, 0 pt game and mass outrage.
No wonder players don’t wanna sign here lmfao this is us while TANKING. Only Canuck fans would be screaming to be tanking and when they do lose their minds that the team is shit.
I miss when this sub was memes and fun, not this cancer bs
This video describes players like Garland, Sherwood, Miller (in the playoffs / when he cares) who have the extreme levels of compete. Big Pete is the exact opposite of that
I am sorry but this doesn’t apply to Pettersson, who is incredibly competitive during the playoffs, and it just doesn’t ring true in general. I agree that size is unimportant, but I think Will is giving us a revisionist history of why the Leafs have not had playoff success. The real reason is just normal variance of outcomes in an unpredictable sport.
Ah you do not be mean to Peeterson he is playing with prosthetic leg. He cannot a skate good anymore. He need to shoot the puck.
