Is there any possibility this is behavioral or something behind the scenes?

  2. martial_arrow

Time for the armchair GMs to over analyze his development.

  3. Taters23

Finally sent down after getting Faulked.

  4. WaylonLemmyJohnny

no sir i dont like it. I get it but I dont like it.

  5. Northern_Rocky_hiker

Hopefully more ice time helps him. Thought he would do better out of the gate (was childish to think we had a quinn hughes in our hands) lol

  6. buddycheesus

No worries. He needs ice time. He will be fine

  7. Flowsnice

That’s where he belongs this season. He needs to become stronger and better defensively

  8. FryguySM

Playing time in the A is better than press box in the show. He will be counted on for his amazing offense. While being able to learn and grow as a defender. He is a huge part of the future.

  9. BigfootOfNorthwoods

Hopefully this means Larkin is ready ( probably not but I hope)

Good. No sense in a young guy becoming a popcorn connoisseur. Get him playing.

  11. Dry_Argument_5812

it will benefit him and grand rapids

This is the right move. I can’t believe going into the season our options were ASP, Gus or Hamonic for that spot and luckily for the team ASP was ready to take on that role for a good portion of it

  13. Gr1nling

Wallinder’s out and seems like they want Truscott full time ECHL.

From a game management perspective, I understand that he’s played a ton of hockey over the past year. I personally thought he played well over the year. Mistakes? Sure. But there is something there. Hopefully he can bulk up over the offseason and come back stronger next season.

  15. MonsieurAK

Best move. Hope he has a long playoff run with GRG then a big summer in the gym.

  16. Makes sense. He needs more development, plain and simple.

Very clearly remember Cleary sounding a little bit incredulous at the beginning of summer when asked if the expectation was that ASP would see NHL ice. Management’s hand was probably forced to a degree due to lack of depth at the time and he did hold his own but there’s more work to do. Looking forward to seeing what next year brings with his game and his physical development.

Seems about 2 weeks later than necessary, but better late than never I suppose.

  18. Shotokanguy

I don’t really like it. JBD is fine. I’d like the option to bring in ASP’s skill set for certain games. I don’t think he was that bad overall.

  19. BellsBeersy

He wasn’t playing here, it’s for the best for now

I thought this kid was the truth?

  21. CBPanik

Get him a skating coach and a leg press machine this summer and maybe he can be something more than a 3rd pair PP specialist. The hype this kid had based on SHL production vs what actually came to be in the NHL is crazy.

These days it feels like it all depends on what the player’s attitude is about it and if THEY believe they should have been sent down or not. Basically, even if he thinks he should be playing over JBD, does he pout or does he say “fuck it, I’ll set the AHL on fire.” This is possibly the moment where we find out what we have In thinking. I hope they put him in a locker with the right guy. Someone who’s a mix of knowledge but also a hype man..

  23. LGRW_Sparty88

Good for GR they could use a boost after getting pillaged by the big club. Should be a good experience playing big minutes into the playoffs and developing chemistry with some other future Wings.

  24. ChaldenesTitan

The Griffins are a wagon with this guy there.

  25. randomhero8008

ASP would be in the conversation for the Calder if a team was playing him 20 minutes and PP1.

  26. Singularity_SgrA

    Best option for him.

This will not stunt his growth. Right now, the AHL is the right place for him

    Rest well sandy pelican

  28. Honestly, I think he wasn’t really NHL ready physically and just made the best of it despite being in over his head, which says a lot about his work ethic and hockey IQ. A long playoff run in GR makes a lot of sense for him right now.

Get him some Detroit style pizza over the summer and have him lift with the NHL team and he’ll be just fine.

  29. It’s better for him and realistically he should have started there. Only reason he was in the NHL was because the D had no depth. With Faulk now they can afford to move him down.

The playing time will help, but more important is gaining strength over the summer. Next year he can play behind Faulk while Anton gets a year in the AHL.

  30. jackstalke

Glad to see him start eating minutes again. Maybe he can QB the Griff’s PP1.

  31. Kyta_ENT

I’m very happy with what he accomplished this year. He’ll be great for the griffin’s playoffs
