It’s rough being a backup, and that has to be taken into consideration when talking about Jojo; before last night, he hadn’t played in like 20 days or something. Couple that with the fact that you’re getting the shittiest assignments—like playing on the second half of a back-to-back—and it’s just really not possible for a goalie in his position to put up great numbers.
But yeah, he’s not good. He occasionally can have a solid game, and sometimes he does make impressive saves, but that’s the bare minimum that a goalie in the NHL should be capable of. He’s getting paid to perform a specific job, and that job is to play well *enough* that Vasy can get some rest without us just having to forfeit points. He’s not doing that, and he really hasn’t done that for us for most of the time he’s been on the team.
By the way, I know that people like to defend Jojo by pointing out that the defense leaves him out to dry a lot, but I also firmly believe that having an unreliable goalie in net affects the way the rest of the team plays.
