Mike Smith was OK.
Rolson was good for a single season.
The last good legit goalie we had was Tommi Salo.

The last GM we had that cared about goaltending was Glen Sather.

  2. It's almost like they're a terribly run organization buoyed by two superstars.

    Fuck Daryl Katz.

  3. Why are you just focusing on offense and goaltending? You seem to ignore the defense, which is a big factor in goaltending. Patrick Roy and Martin Brodeur played behind exceptional defenses, which made them look better. Curtis Joseph and Kelly Hrudey usually played behind bad ones, so their GAA and save percentages were often worse-looking. Pretty shallow analysis here.

  4. You can put prime care price in net and he will have a down season. Why? Because the oilers defense always leaves the goalies hanging. It's hard to save those slot shots, constant breakaways, etc.

  5. Suffering in Joaltending Purjatory can really hurt your jame when on the precipice of entering the playoffs. I sure hope Garry is is channeling his inner Jrant Fuhr by then.

  6. The oilers should have signed John Gibson when they had the chance… if I were the GM, I would call up Marc Andre Fleury and beg him to come out of retirement.

  7. If your goalie is posting a .913 AND a 3+ GAA. the goalie is t the issue. Your team giving up 34 shots per game is your issue. 😂

  8. This level of management incompetence is criminal. Philly is in the same category. It's not easy to find a true number one goalie, but it shouldn't take a decade without any solution.

  9. Oh it's simple, offense wins games defense wins championship, they want the goalie to make up for sh!t defending, it don't work that way

  10. I suspect that in a sick twist of fate, the oilers will find their star goalie after mcdavid is gone.

  11. I miss Skinner. I won't claim he's one of the greats, but I still think he's better than he gets credit for.
If they had tuned up the defense, Skinner could have been perfectly viable.

  12. Edmonton has nothing but two dominate offence players, and that's it. That's what makes them think they have a "SC window open" which has never really been true.

  13. As an oiler fan the fact that they pretty much kept the defense as is (arguably made it slightly worse) and then brought in WORSE goaltending is unbelievable

  14. Its not a Goaltending issue.

    Its a Defence issue.

Look at the Oilers trades and pff season buys the last few years- its all forwards or offensive defencemen.

The worst one was signing Bouchard to a big contract, yeah he scores, especially on the PP, but Edmonton dont need that, they need responsible defence. Personally, I think they should have looked to trade Bouchard for at least one great defensive D, that would have put them in a miluch better position.

  15. Edmonton tripped and fell into two of the best players in the world. None of the Oilers decisions after that support that they are an elite club. Their decisions are filled with blunder after blunder. You should have players tripping over themselves to play with McDavid. Instead they give high value long term contracts to home grown talent. You have to wonder what the scouting department in Edmonton are doing.

  16. They have been in goalie purgatory since Roloson's injury in the cup finals in 2006. This is all nothing new. Oilers made the cup final twice in a row with "no goalie" as the insults from both Oiler and enemy fans alike suggest. Skinner is gone now and the Oilers still have "no goalie." Maybe the Oilers will be the first team in history to win a cup without one. Put a tooter shooter in net and let it win then.

  17. Goalies are obviously a problem, but that defense is just bad. Guys like Bouchard and Nurse are liability in their own zone

  18. If the same problem has persisted over multiple different goalies, maybe the problem isnt the goalie. If they had a decent defensive set of forwards and d-men then maybe their goalie wouldnt be left out to dry and can actually win them games. Something in their system is broken and people keep blaming the goalie

  19. They got so blessed when Jesper Wallstedt fell to them in the draft anddddddddddddddd as any Red Wings fan can tell you bonehead Kenny Holland F'ED that up big time🤦‍♂

  20. The root of the problem with goaltending, as it is with every position, is that the Oilers are a reactive team instead of a proactive team. There is no plan. All they do, year in and year out, is throw random pieces from the bargain bin at the roster then pray that it somehow works. And it never does for very long so they start the cycle over again with an increased sense of urgency or even panic which leads to even stupider moves and the hole just gets dug even deeper.
It starts at the top. The owner doesn't care, the team is staffed by morons, they can't scout, they can't draft, they can't trade and they can't develop. How is any team supposed to succeed when management can't manage?

  21. please . if you make hockey content , you should played or play hockey or just have knowledge about the sport . more than the average fan .
edmontons defensive coach paul coffey left last off season . now wdmonton has no real defensive system . they are jus shit on defensiv ! the defensive wins championships! but if you let the opponents get the shoots from the good ice and slot, you will not win ! if you whant a chance to win with this bullshit defensive system , you ned a dominic hasek in net ! but there was just one dominator . so every active nhl goalie will fail in the edmonton system . all money for. 2 forwards .yes 2 of the best ever , but the defensive coaching and the defenders are the real problem . but fans like you will never understand .

  22. This is more of a defense problem. Even if they were to pick up a Logan Thompson or a Andre Vasilevskiey… they’d have the same outcome.
There’s no cohesion and they don’t play 200’ hockey

  23. Maybe they have a goalie problem regardless of who they put in there because none of the Oilers, especially McJesus, expend an ounce of energy in their own end. 97 cares about offense only.
