I mean it’s fine I guess. I haven’t loved him, and I’ve only hated his play a couple of times

  2. Cairne_Bloodhoof

Don’t hate Seider, Faulk, ASP, JBD on the right side next year. Kinda hate the left side and center depth though.

  3. HazardHouse

With a hyphenated last name like that he’s good for at least a couple more years on this team.

  4. Danengel32

No complaints. Hasn’t been a game changer but hasn’t been bad. Has his games / moments both ways. It’s a bottom pair / depth contract for a position than can turn into a big hole really quickly. And it’s tradeable if you end up with a roster jam at that spot (which would be a good outcome)

I think the second year is to make him more appealing as a trade candidate or as Insurance if Faulk doesn’t sign another short contract.

  6. Dinkin---Flicka

With the rising cap that might be the going price for a 7th D. Worst case we flip him next year and get a middle round pick for him.

  7. ChucklesLeClown

Don’t love it but don’t hate it. Just wondering how it’s gonna work with ASP. Will one of Faulk, JBD or ASP switch to the left side? Will ASP stay in GR? Trade?

  8. Deraj2004

Oh great, I look forward to more games if the team hemmed in their zone because this guy can’t clear a whiteboard let alone the puck.

  9. tyler_anthonyy

For what is hopefully a 7/8 defenceman next year I don’t mind this considering the cap rising

I don’t have any strong opinions about JBD – it’s a perfectly fine third pairing/depth singing.

There’s something hilarious about signing the team’s least-interesting pending free agent today, considering how angry a good portion of the fanbase is, though.

D is not the problem, neither is G. It’s F and it’s exhausting

  12. Wingnut8888

Yikes. I’m not a fan of this guy but if he’s used as the seventh defenceman I guess I’m okay with that.

  13. AmeriCanada98

Absolutely fine as a bottom pair / 7d guy imo

  14. coltron57

JBD has been fine in my eyes for a 6/7. We’ll have flexibility with Faulk having one more year and now JBD having two, but with Anton Johansson getting closer to having a chance to see if he is NHL quality or not, it does kind of crowd that 3RD/7D spot. JBD is comfortably better than Hamonic or Holl though, but that’s a low bar apparently unless you’re in Detroit’s pro scouting.

6th or 7th D man at 1.6 AAV when the cap will be around 100m

A perfectly fine signing imo and raises the potential floor of the D core, and that’s it more or less

  16. magikarp-sushi

He’s doing what he needs to this is fine.

  17. usmcstraydog

Good with this. He’s unremarkable in most aspects, but his positioning is sound and he doesn’t get torched like most 3rd pair D. That’s what you want from a 3rd pair or 7th D. Price is right. It’s a stop gap as ASP gets some well deserved development time in GR.

  18. Benglepuck

I guess they have 0 faith in Anton Johansson

  19. redlion1904

    Good move. He’s optimally a #7, but he’s an optimal #7.

  20. authorserena

I wouldn’t mind this move a couple of months ago but JBD has had some ugly and costly moments in recent weeks.

  21. BaronDoctor

Perfectly serviceable 3p / 7D signing. He’s been benignly ignorable mostly which is what you want out of that spot.
« Huh who is it on d it’s not 1p and it’s not 2p oh that is functional standard defenseman play. Nothing remarkable but not a horrible problem either »

  22. pitty89

They have to be joking. Poorly timed at that
