They are so overrated. They barely can score five on five. Pretty much a power play team. They’ve never had the goaltending and defensive to win the cup.
You need more top tier players to make a top tier team. And the oilers are lacking in top tier players.

But facts are; MGT has failed McD… roster is weak/bad… Mgt has signed Walman Nurse Frederic Jarry.,.. jCampbell etc & emptied all draft picks… so long term damaged too…. & Coach does not impose discipline or a system or get players to be 'in position/ players just wanser & puck-watch… so there are problems even if McD were to play for free..
The Achilles heel of the oilers is defensive play. And trying to play McDavid every shift won’t help that. What if Mcdavid gets hurt ? Then what?

A roster full high paid players and effort is zero. Lets face facts unless there is a huge shake up with the Oilers McDavid will be playing Hockey in the states sooner than later. You know what else no one talks about the fact that I truly believe the Oilers are cursed for trading Gretzky to the states. Trading Gretzky to the Kings would be like the Bulls trading Micheal Jordan to the Raptors after he won his 4th ring.

McDavid may be the greatest offensive player of all time, but simply put, he is not a leader. He does not deserve the “C” on his jersey. He needs to own it. He is the one who needs to set the tone for practices and games. He’s the guy who can lift his teammates to the next level. But instead, he puts them down. They don’t respect him. He whines too much. The next team he plays for, he should not be the captain. I think he’ll be better off, and so will the new team. There is no Stanley Cup in the future for Edmonton with McDavid. To me, that was pretty obvious at the end of the Cup finals last year. Time for him to move on.

None of this is surprising. With the raises to Draisaitl and Bouchard, they didn't have the money to fill in holes, like the last 2 years. With the cap going up the next 2 years, it gives them extra money. But after that, the window is slammed shut.
McDavid and Leon are great and I like a couple of other players but generally they do not have the players to support

Look down any bench in the NHL . Most goals are scored by a few players .Edmonton can play defence and loose 3-2 .Edmonton was always 1 or 2 players from winning the cup .

Fellas, please don’t blame the Edmonton goalies, they will never get a great goalie because their team defence will break down. They have a bunch of great forwards who know how to score, although they obviously miss Draisital, but team defence and team offence wins cups.
I stand behind the oilers but there at zero point in the season have they been chugging along or playing with an ounce of confidence. Hiccup after hiccup after hiccup. Disorganized, dysfunctional, full on regression

The defensive play of the entire team sucks. And that includes McDavid and Draisaitl. However, Bouchard and Nurse are just plain bad defensemen. No clue about basic positioning and stick work.
McD signed for less than market for a reason imo…and that is to make trading him easier.

firstly, they were actually much closer than these gents are letting on in the TBL game. yes they have been a mess, but they've had turnover and injuries and they've played more hockey than any team in the NHL over the last 4 years. Also lost to the cup winner the last 4 years. anywho, Get ready to hear the song change. Oil are about to go on one of their RUNS (this time at the right time). just wait. people will be talking about their 4 lines of depth. about Nurse on 3rd pair. about how they have the best D pair in hockey with bouch and ek and how McDrai are 1 and 2 in the game. and now that they finally have league average goaltending… Oilers win the cup this year. Must of been doing something right to make finals two years in a row. A lot of hockey played, they might be burned out. However, if they get into the playoffs semi healthy and Leon gets back they could be a second tier threat with a lot of experience. You never know!
