Why did they redact the article? Seems like Aquilini bullied that out of them
I’m not here to defend Aquilini because I didn’t read the article, but is it just me or does Trevor Beggs seem like a bit of a twerp, laughing about getting kicked out? I’d love to know what he wrote and what really happened before passing judgement.
I mean it’s a private business, he’s allowed to do that 🤷🏻
Has anyone preserved the article to read?
My uncle is a farmer and got caught up in one of these “legit” scandals just prior to Covid back in Ontario.
The agency was representing what were supposed to be legit workers that all ended up being castaways from the TFWP that broke the rules of their work visa’s and were living illegally in the country.
In this scenario, everything was legit and documented, it just all was 100% false. They provided all false documentation and some were even just people “visiting family” here to make money.
The real person who got attacked in the entire deal was the farmer; my uncle quit farming now but he told me it was nothing for 3-4 of his 25 workers to just go missing in the middle of the night. He would sometime find them and repot them and no one would do anything – the older guys who have been with him for years usually knew exactly was just here for a free flight and a cash advance or to make money before fleeing.
Many are lured away with cash jobs and end up working back on farms in secrecy or end up in the drug trade or living off welfare with some other lowlife welfare. It one of the reasons he got out of vegetable farming is because the labour was such a shit show.
Just a story as I know his very well and it’s likely they had no idea. There are lots of contract workers that support various agriculture crops throughout the season as needed.
Streisand effect from the top rope
Francesco makes me sick, I hope to god something comes out and he has to sell the team and that we get a competent owner, but it’s Vancouver so that will never happen
This needs more traction. Fuck Aqualini
Power to the people!!! Freedom of speech and expression in this country is what makes it unique. Don’t stop talking about this, continue great journalism Trevor!!
Yeah, totally. I’m still waiting on my direct deposit, though. Do conspiracy theories pay net 30 or net never?
For those who didn’t read the article, basically the gist of it was that Aquilini owns farms in Washington State that employs workers from Mexico and other nations. Those farms use a hiring firm to bring those workers in. One of the main problems (amongst other problems) was that those workers were promised a certain wage(s) by the hiring firm, but when the pay period came, they found that their wages were a lot lower than expected. They also had to work in inhumane conditions such as not having access to drinking water in the hot sun and other things. All of these are allegations at this point because convictions have not yet happened, but the Aquilinis were fined for similar problems in the past for violations that occurred on their farms in B.C.
It is giving butt hurt baby who is going to ride this clout now.
I’m really interested to see if the sub contractor is financially tied to the Aquilinis through ownership or if there is a personal connection.
The behaviour by the contractor is exactly the same as what the Aquilinis were doing in Canada.
Saying he got removed for writing about the vineyards doesn’t really line up with what’s actually been confirmed. Once proper reporting came out, it clarified the situation pretty clearly.
Aqualini needs to go. This entire franchise needs a complete reset at this point.
