He needs to work on his wrist and hand strength. The pucks needs to come off his stick quicker and with more accuracy. There's not enough time to do long wind-ups for shots and passes in better leagues. He's got time to get there, but the more he can move the puck effectively, the sooner he can become a useful player at higher levels.
