Literally everyone on this sub is worried about Hedman’s contract

I’m not really worried about Mac’s he’s still playing above what a $4m player should and he hasn’t really lost much of a step.

Hedman on the other hand, yikes

We still don’t know if this is just an off year for Hedman or injury related.

I’m slightly more worried about Cernak’s contract. I’d rather move that and sign Raddy.

I’m sure Julian Brise-Bois has thought about it once or twice.

Not really, MacTruck is making 3rd pairing money on his new contract and is very much worth that imo.

Hedman isn’t worrying me either because he isn’t making ludicrous amounts of money, it’s not for insane term, and most importantly I think he’s still a very good player. He’s had several injuries this year and now we know something has been going on in his personal life that was bothering him.

Point was abysmal to start this year and when he got his head right he immediately started playing great. Even after his knee injury he came back and continued being awesome. This shows how much a mental block can truly effects these players.

Hedman has also been a very vocal advocate for mental health, and often times it’s the people dealing with some level of mental turmoil who are the most passionate about mental health for that reason. I firmly believe that if he can sort out whatever is going on, whatever it is, he’ll be back to a top 20 defender in the NHL and worth well more than $8M as our captain.

Will depend on if Heddy has been wounded all season or if this is his new level.
I think it’s the former, not the latter.

No concerns on McD. 4.1M is fine for a 2LD/3LD locker room leader.

The cap is supposed to go up quite a bit over the next few years and as others have mentioned, Cernak is probably the guy to move if you need cap space.

Hedman’s contract, yes, McDonagh’s contract, no. McDonagh has been good this year. Not sure what’s going on with Heddy, hopefully he’s figuring stuff out right now.

Unlike many on this Sub, I have faith in him to figure things out and go back to playing at a high level.

I think the biggest worry we should have right now in terms of contracts is how we are going to extend Darren Raddysh.

  8. Mac, absolutely not because it’s low in terms of dollar amount.

Heddy, a little bit because it’s a high dollar amount.

The good news is the cap is potentially going up 4 million each of the next two years. So in the final year of Heddy’s deal the cap will already be covering it. And at the end of the day he either figures out what that hell is going on with him this year and corrects it or he might LTI-retire.

Hedman’s contract is definitely a concern. He’s been barely playable this year. It’s possible he’s just very injured but his skating ability has slowly declined over the course of a few years and it’s hard to see it getting better.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I think it’s more likely than not that JBB will go to him at some point before the end of that contract and ask him to waive the NMC. Could be as soon as this offseason. Hedman holds all the power though, so likely comes down to what his priorities are. Hopefully doesn’t get too ugly

  10. in JBB we trust 🙏
Hedmans contract is scary but at the worst case scenario, he’s the best 3rd pairing defenceman in the league. And most of our core is locked up already, 3 more years isn’t horrendous. And 4Mil for Mcdonagh’s amazing defensive IQ and leadership is pretty worth it imo

  11. No not with the cap keeps going up at the chunks it does

  12. aharderharmony

I am cautiously optimistic that Hedman will bounce back next year

  13. HockeyDockey1234

    Mac is earning his money

Hedman, yes, but I would rather him take the time off and do heavy PT. He’s got miles, but he has to get his body back

  14. ChampaBay2021

Not at all, McD contract is basically a steal

People are worried about hedman, but he’ll be fine by next season, anyone that tells you any differently is a doomer

Prime example is point, he didn’t play up to his standard for a while but turned it back on once he dealt with whatever issues he had at the time

If worst comes to worst with Hedman, he will retire and then we don’t have to worry about that contract anymore. He would never allow himself to become a detriment to this team

  15. If we can sign raddysh for under 8 i wont be worried.

If Raddysh walks or costs more than 8 i will be worried

  16. I’m about to mute this sub. There’s two weeks left in the regular season. We’re in the thick of it and y’all keeping bringing up bored offseason August shit. I’m not even remotely worried about these two contracts and anyone who is needs to calm down.

  17. wont-stop-mi

Yes, both are severely overpaid for their low tier performance this year. Trading for Mac was a bone headed move by JBB. Heddy I can understand but it will kill us over the next 2 or 3 years.

  18. McDonagh is literally taking a paycut on his extension from his current cap hit. There’s literally nothing to be concerned about. You’ll find a lot worse contracts for worse defenseman around the league.

Hedman I just don’t think has been healthy since he first went down. While it would be nice to have Norris-level Hedman and our captain out there, we’re doing OK without him. Moser has fully taken the reigns as the #1 Dman. I think Hedman could round into better form again next year.
