Malgré les discours gagnants du PDG Keith Pelley, l’équipe a lancé sous sa direction un nouveau plan de monétisation agressif et coûteux qui comprend certains des éléments suivants :
- Agitation du drapeau (8 à 12 ans) : 956,83 $ (plus le coût d’un billet de match).
- Frapper le klaxon du but : 63,79 $.
- Photo sur la glace d’après-match : 95,68 $ par personne.
- Dîner dans la loge : 1 000 $ par personne (max 10 personnes).
- Salle à manger du salon de propriété : 1 000 $ par personne.
- "Journée des fans" Billets : Jusqu’à 65 $ par personne pour un événement du congé de mars qui était traditionnellement censé être peu coûteux ou gratuit "merci" à la communauté.
Tout cela ne remplace pas le service de santé des joueurs. Ainsi, alors que l’équipe occupe le 14e rang dans l’Est et que Brad Treliving obtient le coup d’envoi, la franchise la plus valorisée de la LNH facture des prix plus élevés pour "expériences" il s’agissait autrefois d’avantages gratuits, d’initiatives communautaires et d’exploitation d’espaces qui sont généralement sacrés pour une équipe et une culture d’équipe.
Les choses s’annoncent très très sombres pour cette équipe.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, leave it to Rogers to cost cut on one of the most profitable sports franchises in NA. And apparently increase prices while cutting costs. We’re going back to the dark days, aren’t we?

This is the exact kind of shit we should expect from an ex Rogers and Bell executive.
What will be interesting is the contrast between the Jays experience and this.
Once Rogers takes over fully, do the Jays become this trash or does the Leafs and others become more like how the Jays operate?
Jays are far more fan focused and not as super obsessed with solely digging into your wallet.
I’ll be the first to admit that I was quietly optimistic about Keith in his first interview. He said the right things.
But he’s just another soulless marionette being trotted out by the Leafs corporate overlords.
Pretty nice touch that The Muppets Studio designed him with uniquely coloured rimmed glasses to really make him memorable to the consumers.

In all honesty, the Fan Day one is the only one that really bothers me. Everything else was already only for a specific exclusive class, but for the regular fan, this team is just so inaccessible.
Training Camp = Closed to public
Practices = Closed to public
Outdoor Practice = Canceled (not the org’s fault but still)
What else do they do where fans can even see them without spending money? How exactly are new fans supposed to fall in love with this team and this brand when there’s such a barrier to access.
I know everyone is drawing comparisons to the Jays right now, but even think of their whole « run the bases after the game » initiative on Jr Jays Sundays. It’s creating meaningful moments that also creates young fans.

Today we discover making money has always beem the goal for the TML. Winning is a means to earn more not to carry on some made up tradition. This is a business to them. Vote with your wallet not with your hearts. These are not your granddads Leafs.
Using lived it for a long time this is corporate shenanigans as usual. Every piece of the business is a cost center and profits must be maximized not matter what.
Dread it, run from it, but enshittification arrives all the same. Corporate is going to corporate when unchecked.

Dont forget how the director of sport science role (Rich Rotenberg) was never filled. Presumably they were too cheap to fill it. Multiple roles have been condensed behind the scenes.
I also know they scaled back on family events for the staff and players as well. No welcome dinners, no Christmas gifts for the team staff. A lot of cost cutting this year. Hell, they don’t even travel Bowen & Ralph still even with it being Bowens last year. One of the most profitable team in the league and they’re nickel and diming everything.
They make those kids pay $1000 AND they still have to buy their tickets too?

Why is anyone surprised? A billion dollar corporation wants more money and catered these things towards those with fuck you money have no problem spending it.

So who can afford $1,000 to have your kid skate around pre-game with a flag? MLG was already the home of the rich and the few, but these practices make it obscenely so. They’re the richest corporate owned franchise in the league and with the most abysmal results for the fans. Pelley is disgraceful.
