If it’s a shorter contract than Dvo’s— no matter the cost— I’ll be disappointed to say the least

Wouldn’t love a 8×9.5 type of deal. While I love Zegras & want him signed long-term it’s only 1 big yr after a few down ones.

Something like 6×8 would be really ideal imo.

  3. No way he leaves. They’ll do what it takes to keep him here. I predict 7-8 mil

8×8. Defer any trade protection by 3 years to see if he maintains his offensive output and can continue to improve overall as a center. Bonuses for him make sense if it can keep his AAV down or even lower than I suggest.

We’re gonna have to move another winger, eventually. That opens up even more cap for resigning Meech and Martone since a year of his ELC is being burned this season.

Schmaltz just signed 8×8 and is cleay a better more valuable piece.  Proven C with much higher floor and a higher ceiling.

Zegras should get 5/6 yrs ~7.5 mil

I see some people say 8×9+ which is insane.

Definitely not a player u give 8 yrs to and 8 mil should be absolute ceiling for aav.

Hes a very inconsistent defensive liability guy who has low floor like last 2 seasons and his ceiling has been 65 pts.  And he hasnt proven he can be trusted at center.

Anything over 8 is clear overpay and 8 mil is too much too

Pay him. He’s young, fits the timeline, is talented, and seems to be loved in the locker room.

  7. 7.5aav or around there would be a steal, I wouldn’t be mad at all with the same contract TK got though, with the cap going up it will be fine as long as he stays healthy and produces like he is this year.

Don’t sign till the offseason. The dvo signing happened when the team was doing good then after they signed him they went on a stinker streak

I’m happy they’re taking their time. Currently, Zegras is the type of player you’re happy to sign up long term, but things change quick in the NHL and it’s the big & long contracts that can bury you.

If you sign an 8×8 and that player regresses for any reason, your rebuild is over before it even gets started. And he is RFA, so take your time and use the leverage you have.

We have to pay him. There are so many trashbag $4-5M centers that are either old or don’t really specialize in anything that we will end up with if we have to replace him
