Having experienced the Lions since 2000, and literally the Wings during the 2019-20 season, 2 points out with a game in hand on the last wild card spot is far from “in the dumps”.
The changes I want to see for next year
Larkin removed as captain, the culture just isn’t there for a playoff team. Skill doesn’t matter if we don’t have the hate of losing, we would just be another Toronto (skilled the last few years, no killer instinct). Culture is on the captain, give the C to Seider.
Cossa up for Talbot. He’s ready, make it happen.
Start going for those big pieces during the trade window. I understand not taking any previous years, I don’t hate what we’ve done the last year, grabbing Gibson, Faulk, etc.
We need to push the younger talent this off season. All this fringe young talent, MBN, ASP, Bear, etc need to start making a jump off they’ve seen NHL time, or be given time in the NHL. We’re notoriously slow with moving talent. I understand why and it works in our favor usually, but I think we need to push em a bit right now.
Yes our luck has been ass, in every way our luck has been horrible. But we’re reaching the point that most of it doesn’t matter anymore going forward. The division all going nuclear matters, and it’s the biggest decider for this year, but if we want to win a cup we need to be able to handle that anyway. But mainly this just means the doomers get to cry more.
Imo, we do this we’re a playoff team even in this hellfire hellscape division.
