  1. Really hoping the young guys play well all season…while simultaneously the team crashes and burns

  2. I like the prospects and goalies coming in atm, but it isn't there for a good season for at least a few years.
A rough time for us shorks fans

  3. ideal lineup assuming we don't make anymore moves:
    Offence:
    Barabonov- Hertl- Meier
    Eklund- Couture – Bordeleau
    Lindblom- Sturm – Kunin
    Lorentz – Bonino – Labanc

    Defence:
    Ferraro-Karlsson
    Vlasic-Nuttivaara
    Merkley-Benning
    (Simek as 7th D)

    Goalie:
    Reimer
    Kahoken

This team stand a chance this season??? not sure but go sharks go

  4. Trading burns vs Karlsson, they really could get a lot more for burns right now than Karlsson. Plus that Karlsson contract… everyone knew from the signing of that one that it would be a hard thing to fix and work around

  5. If the players can stay healthy or as healthy as can be, then that would be a big part in helping them have a bounce back season.

  6. The sharks are such a disaster… DW built this team in such an idiotic manner. I will never understand the karlsson trade, It irritated me the moment it happened. They haven't had a goalie since Nabs in terms of fans really supporting them (Nemo a little bit i suppose). They need to stop with this goalie carousel crap as well. I'm also not a fan of how they've treated their players dating back to stripping marleau of the captaincy just to do the same to jumbo for pavs… Then letting pavs walk in FA because they didn't value what he brought and continues to bring to the table.

  7. Which team that's been in denial for several seasons will be the first to return to relevance, San Jose or Chicago?

  8. It's gonna be a long season for the Sharks unfortunately. Maybe they'll win the Bedard sweepstakes!

  9. As a Sharks fan who watches almost every game, I’ve completely done a 180 on how I feel about Merkley this past season. He showed real promise and I think it’s not too long before he’s a solid NHL defenseman. His skating is incredibly fun to watch. Really excited to see what he can do this season.

  10. I get tired or all these other teams getting and having 3 or 4 to named top notch guys and the sharks never go after any of them. I am glad Wilson is gone, I have felt like they needed a GM change for quite some time.

  11. Doug Wilson has absolutely destroyed this team. I don’t expect them to be anywhere close to the playoffs until they get out of all those horrible long term contracts with no trade clauses. Hard to stay positive about a team that refuses to acknowledge its deficiencies.

  12. Damn looking at our team lines when we had Burns, Pavelski, Goodrow, Donski, Dillon etc compared to now is just so uninspiring 😔

  13. Sharks are going to come out of the blue and win it all much like the 2019 St. Louis Blues team who got as far as the Stanley Cup and actually win it all. New GM and new coach will make a huge difference.

  14. As a Sharks fan, I just want to see growth from the young guys-Merkley, Eklund, Bordeleau-and hopefully see Karlsson try and turn back the clock. I expect them to be bad but hopefully the season can be fun

  15. Sharks I think are safe bet for 8th everybody agrees. Once they traded Burns for trash they lost me as a fan and supporter. Until Grier is gone I'll not root for San Jose or wish them well other than Lottery Pick for 1st Overall. Though seeing how badly he drafted or reached in 1st round or other moves. I really don't see them doing well kinda like Kings who not had a decent draft since 2014 when got Kempe along with Amadio in 3rd round. Since then they got like Roy in 7th round as Mediocre Mikey is garbage can't even get 10 points under sized -5. I'm just hoping they don't trade Kipper like last time they had 3 goalies I think it was Nabakov they kept with IRbe or somebody like that hehe. Reimer expected to get moved so probably no danger of him 34 heh.

  16. No chance that this team makes the playoffs. As a Sharks fan, I am interested to see some of the young guys like Eklund, Bordeleau, and Merkley play a bigger role. The depth pieces Grier added are interesting; seems like a group of guys that will play a little more inspired than the previous roster. I actually think Karlsson, if healthy, can benefit from Burns being traded. I just never thought having those two made much sense, kind of like how Theodore's production went down once Pietrangelo joined Vegas.

  17. Last year SJ took major steps forward in team chemistry right out of the gate, and it was noticeable on the ice. There just wasn't enough NHL ready depth to carry them through a whole season. Swapping out a good chunk of the team with free agent vets is risky, but I think it will pay off if they establish that chemistry again. I see the Sharks playing significantly better defense this year than last, and finding themselves in a lot of 1-2 goal games. The offense may not have improved on paper, but it will be better if we have the puck more, and it won't need to improve too much if we're not always stuck in our own end and being outscored by 3-4 goals. Wilson's "Injection of Youth" didn't work in the end, but we're going to be seeing a very different Sharks team on ice this year, both in terms of personnel and playstyle .

  18. Prediction: 8th in the Pacific
Reason: out of all the teams in the Pacific, this team NEEDS to bottom out and this season with every other team in the Pacific having improved they're the odd team out. They won't be as bad as Arizona and Chicago will be in the central, but they still will be pretty bad. It's probably for the best.

  19. Life-long Sharks fan who's watched 95+% of their games the last 10+ years.
Lots of people in the comments are placing blame on Wilson for the massive contracts, and rightfully so (to an extent), but there's no reason to put hope in Grier. He traded a 3rd for Kunin and signed him to a multi-year deal, though he's not a very good player at all and isn't an upgrade over Balcers, who was more cost-controlled too and had value in the league and didn't need to be bought out. Trading Burns was the right decision for the direction of the team, but the execution of it was awful. A 3rd as the only main return despite all that salary retention was a failure. He hasn't replenished the Sharks roster with the type of players that were available this offseason either.

  20. As a Sharks fan, the best thing that can happen the next few years is to miss the playoffs and be a lottery team.

  21. Quite insane that EK hasn’t had a good season since his final year with Ottawa in 2017. That’s 5 seasons being bad with a horrible cap hit.

  22. Just pray for the tank. This franchise will be in the doghouse for the next 3-5 years at least.

  23. I LOVE Burns but he has never been a defensive guy. Defense will improve with him gone. Unfortunately, the beginning of the end for this team was signing Karlsson. I had season tickets for the first 24 years of this franchise and have watched almost every game they have ever played and I don't see much hope for this season. Let's hope there are some good draft picks in the coming years. <sigh>

  24. I'm excited for this season with the new changes, but I have very low expectations.

  25. Been a partial season ticket holder since year 1991 & full ticket holder since 1997. The team is definitely transitioning. Upcoming desisision's on Timo Meier and his $10 qualifying offer is the biggest decision the Sharks will have moving forward. Tomas Hertl didn't resign with San Jose to see the team flounder for years to come. Bordeleau and Eklund are being highly regarded as can't miss prospects. Eklund is a question mark due to his 21/22 season after being sent down by the Sharks. But the buzz is he can't miss. I can see the Sharks moving Bonino to Coutures left wing and LaBanc on his right to form a good scoring second line. Meier/Hertl/Barabanov 1st line was formidable all last year. The third line needs to gain traction. A Lindblom/Bordeleau/Kunin third line needs to help with depth scoring. The 4th line of Lorentz/Sturm/Nieto-Reedy could be a good depth/defensive line. The team has relied so much on point shots and rebounds as there main way to score 5-5 the last 5-8 seasons. Changing that style of play will be imperative for David Quinn to get the team off to a quick start.
On defense, gone is Burns offense, but also gone is his 4-8 bad defensive mistakes that have provided the opposition 3-4 good scoring chances per game. Karlsson (when he played) was a difference maker. I look for Quinn to get more production (be it offense or defense from Karlsson) and playing with Mario Ferraro or Jacob Megna he will Thrive! But Karlsson needs to protect the Defensive side of his game more. His chancy passes have resulted in weak goals against.
Our GT is sound and rebounded nicely last year (except for injuries) I look for the team to trade Reimer (not Hill) with Kahkonen & Hill or Mann sharing the net. It could be a three man net until another team gets desperate in their needs for a goal tenders closer to the trade deadline.
Special teams was a double edged sword last year. The kill was great, while the offense on the power play was non-existent. 5-5 play needs to improve in the bottom 6 if this team has any chance of playoff hope.

Mike Grier brought in many NHL caliber players so the youth would have to earn roster spots instead of being anointed them at the beginning of the year.

I look for a strong veteran push through February, & if they have a chance to make the playoffs, the trading will be strategic, but if they are too far out by the end of January, look for many trades. Bonino, Nieto, Kunin, Lindblom, Meier (due to contract stipulations) Couture, Hill or Reimer, etc.
