Was it me or did Sid just look off last night.
Our goalies are rebound machines!! And the defense is too small.
Hey DK…..Pittsburgh had nothing and looked committed to sacrificing that game. Tampa is good, real good. Besides Chinakhov the first line was horrible, Sid looked 50%, and Rust was awful. Let me say that again, Rust was bad and turned over the puck all night, he was bad. You are right, I won’t put it all on Skinner but he was not good. But last night there was no effort, no swarm, no unity, while I think they’re outclassed by Tampa they should still be able to play a style to slow them down. Thinking Muse saw Rust as bad, changed the first line, but it was too late. They better be better on the weekend, and they face a team that punishes hurt bodies. Nothing to take away from last night.
Yes, we tried a rookie, in 2016 in Murray and won. We must put the Russian in there. There is nothing to lose. Risk wins, it is in the Pens history and DNA.
Scapegoating goaltending for this loss is so wrong
DK I’m sorry. You have no idea what you are talking about. Yea Skinner wasn’t good there’s no doubt about it but to put the main and only blame on him IS FOOLISH it’s always easier to blame the goalie all of the time when people don’t know what they’re talking about. One goal was a weird bounce off of the boards which lead to a breakaway another goal we lost all coverage in front of the net after another weird bounce behind the net. But hey I guess they have to be prime Marty Broduer for you to consider a goalie “even good “ 🤣
In all honesty, we were playing with house money tonight anyways would have been nice to win but literally means pretty much nothing if we lost. Remember Tampa is still in an absolute dogfight for the division crown in The Atlantic so they have a lot to play for. This game is probably just another overreaction like the fanbase has been doing all season long.
The penguins got thoroughly outplayed by a team who needed this game more. Goaltending has certainly not been a strength but this isnt the game to complain about it. .
Better thing is to remind ourselves that the Leafs have NEVER won 3 playoff rounds. The year they won, they only had two rounds. You’re welcome
Maybe the team didn’t want to empty the tank tonight in a house money game and Tampa Bay was probably more desperate. I will say they do have to be serious against Florida tho. I also wouldn’t mind if we gave murgashov a shot in net tbh.
I'm not sure I'd consider home rinc an advantage. While the numbers are even offensively, we play better defensively on the road.
I honestly think even if we had Dominik Hasek in his prime last night I still don’t think we would’ve won last night in my opinion.
They just didn't have there legs. It was obvious from the puck drop.
The reality is that the Penguins, last night, looked tired outside of a few players (Karlsson, Chinokhov, Rust, Acciari and Girard). I give the boys, including the goaltending, a pass on this one given, I'm certain, the emotional drain that the Islanders and Red Wings game(s) had on them. Tampa brought their A game (and their legs) and the Penguins, clearly, brought, best case, their C game (and no legs). Big weekend coming up on Saturday and Sunday. The boys will get home today, hopefully get a good rest tonight and it's back to the grind on Saturday and Sunday. I suspect, with the leadership in the locker room, this team will be fine (as they have been all season).
Make a save? How about don't make so many careless turnovers that turn into easy goals. They are lucky the score wasn't 10-3. Not many goalies could have survived the terrible passing and defense in front of them. Karlsson said "We didn't come to play". Crosby and the first line were completely outplayed.
DK – I'm not going to disagree with you that goaltending in general could be better. I'm not the biggest fans of Skinner or Silovs, but last night the Pens gave up SEVENTEEN high danger scoring chances. The Pens only registered FIVE high danger chances. That's not just bad. It's really bad.
If this is their 'playoff mentality', we are in trouble. ❤️🔥🍻
DK stop blaming only the Goaltenders. Was Skinner good last night? No but he was far from the main reason why we lost last night. If we had prime Patrick Roy we lose that game. The penguins just didn’t play well last night. There were only four players that showed up last night, Sam Girard, Rickard Rakell, Egor Chinakhov and Kris Letang that’s it.
Thank you DK. Sooner or later the goaltending will have to change, I feel this more as of late. I agree DK bring Murashov in. Great show, Have a wonderful weekend.
Let’s go Pens.
Ahhhh save %! It's the new +/-…..oh but look at his save %, he's terrible!
Has anyone noticed the Pens recent play against playoff teams–Carolina, Tampa, Dallas and Colorado ? The common theme is that they go pasted by teams better they are and this does not bode well going into final week of a playoff push. If this trend continues they will be 1 and done in the playoffs
I think it's obvious this team doesn't have an elite goaltender but I think the largest problem is trading away one of your best defensive defenseman kulak for Girard who is just blah.
It isnt possible to blame thiis loss on Skinner, and I can easily say that Skinner is a far better goaltender than Shilovs…and Jarry. It's the same problem the Pens have had for years and never seem able to fix….The Pens are a team with no good defensive structure (inclluding the forwards). But last night was only one game that does not require a knee jerk reaction. The reality is that the Pens were the old Pens last night…they gave up a goal in the first minute of the 2nd period (shorthanded) and another in the last minute of the 2nd period..just like the old Pens..I just hope that doesnt become a pattern again..you cant afford to have inconsistent defensive efforts especially in the playoffs
At the beginning of the season, our biggest hopes were to create a competition for the crease by instituting our up and coming youthful talents in Mur and Blom. One of the biggest wishes we could have ever had granted was that Jarry would be traded and it would open a spot for one of them to come in and shine. Now here we are with an exact replica of the guy we got rid of, trading in and out with a fringe backup at best. While we had the opportunity, we should have gotten rid of one or both while their values were high for any kind of return they could fetch. So much for competition, now we essentially have Beavis and Butthead kicking each other in the groin until somebody falls, though theyre both sprawling on the ground in the fetal position. If I wanted to see two lackluster performers go back and forth in a "who isnt the worst goaltender in net tonight" battle, id rather see the the kids.
DK. Is there might be a problem with the multiple lines changes. I know subject to change for injury. But this is too many different lines.
Murashev did not do well in last years playoffs, and was not sterling in his brief stint up here, when the team had better overall defense. he is not the answer this year.
Also, the defense is struggling because over the past month or so, everyone has been terrible at getting out of the d zone. the amount of turnovers is staggering, and the worst part is, it's predictable. the player skating and faking a forehand pass, only to flip it backhand type of thing, is doing so bad because their body language is not disguising it, and opponents are jumping all over it. these turnovers are when the goals come in.
I was not happy with Skinner myself last night, but the Pens were flat out not prepared for the speed and hunger Tampa unleashed on them. Tampa wanted this game badly. Pens didn't.
So many problems with this.
1) There was no mention how good Skinner was just the other night against the Wings when the Pens had breakdown after breakdown in the 2nd and 3rd periods.
2) Goaltending is only mentioned after losses.
3) The Pens quality of opponents have been extremely high in March and early April … better teams like Colorado, Carolina, Dallas, Tampa, etc. tend to cause goaltenders to have a lower save %
4) Murashov has had games in the NHL and has a career sub-.900 save % in the NHL himself
5) The team absolutely laid an egg last night … probably a let down after winning their two biggest games of the season back-to-back on Monday and Tuesday
These 2 goalie are the worst in the east. Even when we play lights out they give up 4. Idk that jarry was the right call to trade this year unless the young guy was coming. We are terribly bad on the net.
Penguins need to be more consistent.(Doesn't matter if you play Skinner at home & Silovs on the road.( I read on a comment earlier this week). IT'S CRUNCH TIME!
Feels like you decided what you wanted to talk about here before the game lol
