Dinosaur coach.
But he won Olympic gold with a roster full of all-stars so he must be a good coach. Right????
The second he threw all the kids on the 4th line together I knew they were getting no time the whole game, a damn shame
Since this seems to have been going on well before Sully, is it more of a Drury demand than anything else? I suppose a coach should be able to nut up and tell the GM this isn’t the right path for these young guys, but feels like it’s coming from the top. I honestly don’t know though.
Usually you get a performance bump from the guys in year one of a new coach. This season you’ve seen guys checked out for large stretches of the year, they’ve been atrocious for large stretches. I’m out on Sullivan.
This shit is organizational. We did it to every other hyped prospect we’ve ever had and will continue to do it until something massive and structural changes within the team
really? fire sully now? give it a rest already…
It’s almost like me, a few others here and the entire penguins fanbase told you this was going to happen
There’s a reason the penguins are better this year without him
This sub in a nutshell:
« Play the kids, bench the vets. Tank for McKenna, stop winning pointless games it hurts our draft odds »
<plays kids, kids win us games>
« Nice job hurting the tank, Fire Sully, we should have played like this back in December »
<benches kids, plays vets, vets lose us game>
« Way to give all the minutes to washed up vets. Dinosaur coach, cant win without a generational talent. Fire sully ».
Gotta have something to complain about.
He’s a good coach doing what he can with the roster he’s given. This year started with a subpar team with a lot of big egos. A lot of the early losses were 1 goal games and they couldn’t find a rhythm and had bad puck luck. Add in a bunch of injuries and these things happen. I’d give him another year before starting this fire Sully shit
You’re crazy….
This isn’t the Premier League, where mid to.bottom table teams go through 3 managers a season…
This team was flawed long before Sullivan was OUT of the Pittsburgh job…
What magical wand-waiver of a head coach would fix it???…..There isn’t one…This needed to be a deeper rebuild..

Go outside and enjoy some spring weather, man. It’s a race to the bottom right now. Winning is nice short-term dopamine, but losing now is nice long-term dopamine. Sykora was doing too well. Can’t be winning all these games in a lost season. Stuck in middle-of-the-pack purgatory with middling draft picks would be a long-term set back.
But on a more serious and nuanced note. For better or for worse for player development, Sullivan’s unfortunately just continuing to trot out vets against playoff-bound teams, and giving the prospects/youth more prominent roles vs bottom-standings teams. Granted, they should be experimenting away from the winning formula for away games, and keep trying to win at home, if the youth’s been winning just to see how they fare against higher level competition.
At the same time, Sykora on the 4th line, even with less minutes, gets to spend more time with Fox and Gavrikov than in a 3rd line role, which is a good thing. The team also did better in the 3rd period, when Sullivan switched around the matchups, which is another positive sign for Sykora (and Laba and Chmelar): [https://www.nhl.com/stats/shiftcharts?id=2025021195](https://www.nhl.com/stats/shiftcharts?id=2025021195) Sullivan is still mixing things up within the 60 minutes of the game, a good thing, although these old school coaches still need to put in the better performers of the night during crucial situations especially in a meaningless game, rather than continually stretching the minutes for the big contract vets despite the night’s performance.
