  1. Mirtle also mentioned the idea of Gillis as President and Sunny Mehta as GM in his piece

  2. I feel like his 27 page manifesto that leaked a couple years ago is exactly something Keith Pelley would want to see after his press conference comments.

  3. I hope that the Leafs get Gillis.

It’s super hard and takes a lot of luck to win the Stanley Cup, pretty much the best you can ask for is a team that is consistently good, and the Gillis Canucks were genuinely an incredible team.

    Omfg we are so fucked

Edit: I had names confused I was thinking Dave Nonis.

  5. Gillis built a solid contender in Vancouver than for some reason never got another job

Gillis seems like a decent pick but how can that be when this org does everything wrong…

Was Pete Chiarelli at a rub n tug or something?

  8. I didn’t know much about Gillis, but honestly, I wouldn’t mind this move with someone like Mehta. We need to have better pro-scouting and amateur scouting. Although I’ve been impressed by the new scout Treliving hired – I think Koblar and Nansi were solid picks. We’ll see how Danford turns out – if he doesn’t develop into a good puck mover like a Tanev his ceiling becomes quite low

  9. OP did you share this in a way that lets you bypass the firewall?

If so – thanks, you legend.

i don’t have much to go off with this piece, but gillis as _president_ sounds good. if he brings in a gm that isn’t a re-tread (which sounds like it could be the case) then i wouldn’t be opposed at all.

Seems to be a lot of smoke around this over the last couple days.

Hopefully it happens sooner than later. We need to get moving

  12. How Gillis handled the goaltending situation in Vancouver raises alarm bells for me.  He inherited some great players that Burke and Nonis served up on a platter.. and also I think his drafting record stinks. What am I missing here?

I wouldn’t mind if he became president and Sunny Medta became the GM

Yes, that’s what the Leafs should do, hire another ex-GM who bombed hard out West.

at the very least, he probably isn’t a person that would be obligated to keep Rielly on the team.

  16. I’m genuinely asking cause I don’t know shit about this. Would Gillis be a guy that is good for development and gaining an edge for a contending/playoff team?

I feel like we kinda need a deal maker who can orchestrate a couple of steals on the market to get back in contention. And make some bold moves to finesse some NTCs. Haha.

And if Gillis isn’t the deal maker type is there someone to compliment? And is the Mehta guy what that is.
