quinn hughes thinks highly of the person he went to game 7 of the second round with and won a gold medal with

  2. EpicPotato806

Put some blame on JT and Petey for not getting along like toddlers.

    To quote Don:

« You two are adults playing a child’s game for millions. And you two can’t get along? Grow up »

  3. “(Looking back at 2024), I think it felt easy that season. Like, I feel like this team in Minnesota is unbelievable, but that team in Vancouver had 50 wins. We’re not going to get to 50 wins this season here; it’s literally not even possible at this point.

“It felt in that month of January (in 2024) like we were just going to win no matter what. We were just rolling. Even then, I would say, it was just always fractured at times.”

  4. Kaos_mission

Say what you want, 23/24 JT Miller might have been the most exciting player I’ve seen wearing a Canucks jersey in the last 10 years. Absolute beast!

  5. jackofwind

I can’t imagine someone watching JT Miller every game and being blind to his extremely obvious character flaws.

  6. arazamatazguy

    That quote is amazing.

He could see it coming for years?

I still don’t believe for one second Hughes would’ve stayed if Miller was still a Canuck and the team was better. He was always going to leave.

  7. Wooden-Background107

Quinn was Team Miller. It’s settled.

When you reflect back at someone with such admiration, it’s pretty obvious he was not happy once Miller was traded and Canucks kept Pettersson. The way he talks about him as a top 5 player is telling.

Even when Tocchet was in town, who did he go out with…alone? Miller and Tocchet. These guys were close.

And he « obviously doesn’t want to point fingers », but it’s pretty clear reading between the lines that he is pointing at Pettersson.

  8. Damn I can’t believe that Quinn Hughes has summer plans with so many players that r/canucks is sure absolutely hate him. Have they not read all the threads about how he betrayed them?

  9. I think pretty clear that whatever happened between EP40 and Miller, that it was EP who couldn’t get over it. Just based on how Hughes, Tocchet, and the front office still talk about Miller. Whether it was warranted for EP to hold onto that grudge we’ll never know. And this is coming from someone who is still an EP fan

  10. Cdr_Bond007

So he doesn’t blame JT at all for his part in what happened? That’s…interesting. Does he just expect that JT could keep doing what he was doing and he wouldn’t be traded? Speaks to the level of entitlement that Hughes must live with every day. JT had a good few years here where he absolutely was a dog out there and one of the best Canucks we’ve ever had. But that shouldn’t cover up, hide or distract from the negatives and the baggage that Miller carries around with him. It’s Miller’s fault that he was traded. Let’s not forget he was suspended for 10 games. Weird perspective from Quinn here….

Fuck Hughes I hope we bury him tonight when we play Minnesota

  13. “EP40 was never ready to shoot when I passed it to him.”
There you go saved a read.

  14. rough_poop

Guy getting all philosophical as if he wasn’t a big part of said fracture

  15. Chance_Account_4338

If he saw the fracture as losing Miller, this tells me he was on team trade-Petey, and his US-clique on the team was important to him, for….reasons…

  16. AccurateAd5298

“You want to blame me for over-trying […] im good with it”

Ok, dude. Literally no one is mentioning that. “My biggest flaw is that I’m a perfectionist”. Sure thing, boss.

A weak puff piece for Quinn just like Drance did for Kesler. That aged like milk.

Not even one word about being MAGA which matters far more to many Canucks fans than “trying too hard”. GTFO.

When Hughes and Drance stop gobbling each other’s balls, they’d look up and see they’re a couple of dicks.

  17. I hate how he references the Buffalo game as proof he cared this year when it was one of his better games and he probably knew at that point he was on the move. I and many of you have watched nearly every game of his pro career and you can’t tell me there weren’t stretches this year where he didn’t give a fuck or unintentionally wasn’t fully engaged. We’ve all seen him at his best and it wasn’t there with us this year.

  18. Boucher2114

    1. I don’t especially find the whole “first game against old team” thing all that interesting. Feels like a media contrivance to me

    2. I think the whole “Quit Hughes” thing (even in this thread) is really weird. Have none of you ever changed jobs before?

    3. At the same time, Hughes seems like his perspective is a bit warped? Has he never seen someone change jobs before? I don’t think it’s a big knock to say that he maybe he wasn’t trying as hard at the end. Also, the JT Miller praise? I don’t even know what to say, but I’m confident no one is ever seeing the 104-point 2024 version of him ever again. If Hughes thinks the problem was trading JT… I hope he enjoys watching the Rangers for the next few years.

  19. ThisIsFineImFine89

This team had any success followed by major set backs multiple times. Its gotta be hard to see progress, think you’ve turned the corner, only to have management decisions result in taking two steps back.

Tofolli and tanev being left to walk after bubble success

Lindholm and Zadorov and cole being let walk.

I known it hurts losing such a talent in quinn, but i don’t blame him for not wanting to re-up again after evidence showed him, any success is going to be followed with multiple steps backwards

  20. californiacommon

I don’t see a way to read his comments that isn’t an indictment of Petey. The guy praises JT, and says that when JT was traded was the beginning of the end. He mentions Demko as being a key component of the team. He mentions visiting Brock and Filip. I’m not claiming Petey’s poor performance or attitude are the only reasons he left but its hard not to think they had a major impact on JT and Hughes both wanting out.

  21. outofnowhere1010

There were a cpl guys that left in the off season that were offered similar money to stay . Lindholm and Zadorov . Could they see problems in the room when signing elsewhere?

  22. PMMeYourCouplets

I don’t want to point fingers but let me call out subtly call out management for both trading away a star player and for building a team that couldn’t compete sustainably. But not pointing fingers.

  23. notevenfire

Sorry, Drance is on the fool list ever since he RECENTLY stated that Hughes number should be retired by the Canucks and his name should be in the ring of honor.

I get it he’s a REALLY good player, but seriously? Is this fanbase/media really down in their knees for one of the worse captains in Canucks history.

    Wtf

  24. rengorengar

Really getting some mixed messages from Quinn here, so would he have preferred a Petey trade over a Miller one? It’s also possible Quinn liked Petey the person, but not the player…

  25. finnishmacinnis

Ooooofff, gonna take years for me to wrap my head around this one.

One of my all-time favorite Canucks to watch. Easily the best defensemen the club ever had and maybe the best player. Seemed like a thoughtful guy for a hockey player.

I don’t blame him for wanting to leave. There were simply too many mistakes by management and you don’t want to waste the next 3-4 years of Quinn Hughes on a lottery team. Ironically, he might have done us a huge favor by saying he wouldn’t re-up with the team. It forced management to embrace a rebuild (at least for now) and provided considerable draft capital (which the team has struggled to acquire over the last decade).

All that said, I’m not sure he was a great captain. From my view management offered it to him as a way of trying to get him to stay. It was an odd fit. I think you want a player like Quinn to do his thing and dazzle on the ice. He doesn’t need to be the one answering all the tough questions.

The last few months of Hughes were a tough look for everyone. It just went on too long and everybody looked pretty bad.

It all leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

  26. Numerous_Task_1210

Fuck Hughes. At least miller did stuff in and for the community

  27. Putrid-Bath-470

Hey, tell us you’re pointing the finger at Petey without saying you’re pointing the finger at Petey, Quinn.

  28. DJScotty_Evil

Canucks fans don’t need to hear any of that. Move on, quitter.

  29. lol dude is basically saying they traded my USA buddy instead of that Swedish guy so I’m out too. The fact he was captain during the Petey JT beef, and let it escalate to the point it did speaks to his leadership abilities. He wants to play for a winner, I totally get it but just stfu at this point.

  30. theboneandonly

2024 was such a fun season. Felt like they really had a chance that year until the Demko injury.

  31. Fuck em. If you’re not going to be a part of the solution we don’t want you.

  32. The fracture was losing a deranged piece of shit who couldn’t put aside his fragile feelings and didnt want a do his job making millions and millions of dollars just skating around for a few hours? People young and old making minimum wage have to deal with worse on the daily and manage it and he couldn’t AND STILL CANT IN NY!

Maybe if you weren’t damn near invisible in that 23/34 playoff runs things would be different too! he was getting thrown around and looked soft after throwing up empty points after an insane regular season. Can’t wait to see him get wrecked in the playoffs

  33. Emergency_Mall_2822

Got it: not pointing fingers, but completely Rutherford/Allvin’s fault, going back to the EP40 extension. Seems clear (and obvious) enough.

  34. dattroll123

no, quinn. JT is a locker room cancer and you know it. The fact that as captain you didn’t step up to take control of the locker room says more about you than anything.

  35. Hellosweetparadox

I really hate everything about Quinn Hughes and his family

  36. frankiefrank1230

Drance also thinks Quinn’s jersey should be retired or his name in the ROH. Drance is either a huge homer or just likes rage baiting.

  37. Slammer582

Tier 1 American Players have a well earned reputation of being a cancer in the room.
