Our team was in contention to make the playoffs and compete for the Stanley Cup. The players deserved the backing of their GM. I would rather trade that pick and try to instil a winning culture than not spend it and tell the players that the front office didn’t believe in them.
Teams with top end young players like Schaefer can develop a losing culture and be stuck. We don’t want to be that.

If darche doesn’t make a move at the deadline this place would have lost their mind. He made a move to try to help this team without giving up the future.
And no that 1st round pick isn’t a guarantee and neither was the trade. Just because you don’t like the trade doesn’t mean it was a bad trade.

They had a great 2025 draft even when looking past the three guys taken in round 1 which softens the loss of col 1st

According to this sub, nobody should ever pick 27-32!! It’s completely worthless, you should just forgo that pick if you have it.
