Grabbing him before others could in offseason explains it’s more a long term move than a try to save last 4 games move. LFGI

All good points. “But he threw goalies under the bus” ok…. Roy threw Duclair under the bus and that effect is still lingering. On paper DeBoer is an upgrade.

is ownership stepping in again on a potential rebuild/retool now that they’ve seen schaefer is enough to get us close to a playoff berth? team finally had some level of foresight and we’ve lost it again.

I’m fucking terrified of what their offseason moves might be. He’s right in that they clearly think that they can win with this group, and they can’t.

I’m glad it shows that we’re taking this team seriously and being aggressive when things aren’t working out. The move for Schenn, canning Roy. I just hope this works longterm.

Then we should have sold at the deadline??? At least the Panthers tanked their season and got priority in the draft. Sure, we beat the other teams looking for a coach but now we are late to blowing up the roster and freeing up salary ahead of the off-season. Steve Cohen wanted to ‘win now’ and blew a fuck load of money on the Mets to be nowhere closer five years later. What 5D chess are we going to pull to somehow build a competent, young/fast, well knit roster when there are teams well ahead of us by years in moving the same direction with arguably more pull/attraction from players looking to move? This is only happening now because we are very likely miss the playoffs again and ownership wants playoff ticket money.

Roy looked like a psychopath behind the bench, I’m sure his crap grew old

Somebody on this sub, might have been disco, said the way this season is ending reminded them of how the Mets season ended. I remember wondering if that meant our off-season would be equally nuclear.
I don’t think Darche is like Stearns, but…

If i remember correctly, Deboer doesn’t do passengers. Some of our D is going to have a hard time

The difference between Isles and other teams is that the Isles HIRED a coach. Other teams FIRED their coach.
I’m sad to see Patrick go, but hopefully we get a new coach bounce here and win the next 4. And either way we start setting up for next year.

I would’ve taken Cassidy instead. This organization just won’t admit the roster is flawed and old.

I get the move, I do, from at least a winning perspective. DeBoer gets you to good playoff success but probably won’t win you a Cup. My problem, and probably a lot of other people’s problem, is that we were told at the beginning that this season would help the « future ». And so far, nothing I’ve seen past the offseason has proven that. The team clearly isn’t ready for a deep push and very often gets carried by only 2 or 3 players, and management/ownership must have thought that was enough to build around. I really hope it works out, I wouldn’t be a fan if I didn’t, but I’m *extremely* concerned about that « future » they talked about before.

Don’t always agree with Staple but this is a solid take.

It’ll be nothing if not entertaining. He’s proven he can get results. Hopefully he helps our defensive structure. My biggest worries are how he’ll mesh with Sorokin and develop our young guys. But if we’re talking next season, they won’t even be on the team yet. We’ll see how the offseason goes if we’re really trying to be aggressive during Schaefer’s ELC

The idea that the islanders “jumped “ Deboer” before other teams could hire him is a complete joke and Staple is an embarrassment..
Does Deboer not know if he is in demand? that’s ridiculous.
So he wanted to come to the Island and could have been hired the day after the season ends.
Replacing the coach.. who I liked but understand with 4 games left even with what i consider to be an epic collapse is an embarrassment to the franchise.

When the Isles are bounced look for him to shit on Sorokin like he did Oettinger.

My biggest concern is how he’ll handle Schaefer! I just hope he doesn’t screw up his enthusiasm!

I was never sold on Roy anyways even though I loved him as a player. Not sure DeBoer gets us there, but the whiplash of this move is going to need some time to settle.
