  1. Only 5 months late, nothing like blowing a season for nothing. Unbelievable.

Departed means they asked him to give up his GM role and just be the VP, and he said no and would rather leave than take the bruised ego. Similar to when Lou was asked to not be the GM anymore, and Lou didn’t want to give up the GM control and let Shero do it all, so Lou left to go to Toronto.

  3. Just dont hire/promote from within. Dont want Madigan, Fletcher, or Marty to run things. Those will just yield the same results.

  4. I was there in person on Dec 11th when we lost 8-4 to TB and promised myself I wouldn’t go to any games at the rock until fitz or Keefe were gone. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to go back next season for a while there. Maybe I’ll look for a last minute deal for tomorrow and cheer for the fitz exit

  5. Yes, but for fuck sakes that took too long. We have Markstrom for 2 more fucking years

Calling NJ a “hidden gem” feels like a thinly veiled insult

Overall, classy statements on everyone’s part. Surprised they didn’t wait until the season was officially over, but why not at this point

  8. Just as I walked outside the clouds parted, the sun shone down on my face, and a singing bluebird landed on my shoulder. Just when I thought life couldn’t get better, I got a notification on my phone

Should’ve happened the moment he suggested extending Markstrom for 2 years at 6M a year. Well too late now; we did nothing at the deadline because we had a lame duck GM. Now we have an incredibly weak FA class and Quinn is already gone. Nothing much a new GM can manage outside of the draft and maybe finally offloading Dougie. I’m glad this finally happened, but it’s way too late

Christmas is here. 3 months late, but it’s here.

Now fire every coach and Marty.

Isn’t there a rumor that Toronto was really interested in Mehta? Maybe Fitz got the axe now as opposed to the end of the season to jump on Mehta before Toronto.

3 years. 3 years I’ve been waiting to open my phone to this news. It’s such a sense of relief.

All who so confidently claimed that he would not be fired, what lead you that conclusion?

In any league, when a GM has built the entire team, Vegas picks them as a top 6 team, and they are as much of a dysfunctional disaster as the 25/26 Devils, that almost always leads to the GM getting fired.

I am not trying to be argumentative about this. But I am genuinely curious as to the thinking of those who for weeks have been very confidently posting that Fitz would not be removed. Why did so many believe this?

While I was never sure what would happen, Fitz surviving in NJ just seemed against what almost always happens when the gap between performance (among the most disappointing teams of 25/26) versus pre-season expectations (Vegas top 6 Cup pick) is so large.

  14. So now what? Who are candidates? Shanahan? Mehta? I’m not big on knowing much about GM lore. I don’t want to celebrate *too* much until we know who the replacement is and their vision. Also I wonder how the players feel? There is a human element and many of these guys were signed, drafted, traded by Fitz. I’m obviously thinking about core guys in Jack, Nico, Bratt. Nico up for extension has me a little nervous. Jack’s family being connected to Fitz as well, is there an impact there? I know at the end of the day it’s a business and the players know that too so hopefully they all see this as a step towards something positive.

I know people agree gonna say « Well, don’t celebrate until we get someone who isn’t worse » but literally? Just let us be happy for ONCE
