Celebrini for sure
Coin flip between Kuch, Mac, and McDavid.
Give it to whichever wins the Art Ross.

The fact Kuch, Mack and McDavid all have similar stats and have all slowed down the last few games is good for Celebrini.
If the Sharks make the playoffs and Macklin is less than 20-25 points behind those guys, I think it’s fair to give it to him.
Celebrini dragging the sharks potentially to the playoffs is a hell of a compelling case.
It’s the age old « best player » VS « best player who is also most valuable to his team. »
If you’re part of the second group, the whole Drasaitl/Mcdavid combo really hurts Mcdavid.
Kucherov is clearly the best Lightning player, but he does have more around him than Celebrini.
If San Jose makes the playoffs, Celebrini has a real case for Hart, Imo.
It’s MacKinnon this year
Some interesting choices per team. Like not having Dahlin for Buffalo or Hronek for Vancouver. I suspect using points share means you’ll just never see anyone other than a forward win the award.
Personally I think Celebrini shouldn’t get serious consideration. In the past teams had to at least make the playoffs to qualify. If the Sharks do make the playoffs, they’re going to do it with 85 points or so. That just isn’t a good enough team performance to qualify. As a rule of thumb, something equivalent to 90
In the recent history, the fewest points by a team to have a Hart winner (full season only) was Jose Theodore’s win when Montreal had only 88 points. That was the year the Montreal reporters all left Iginla off their ballot, so calling that a controversial win is a bit of an understatement. Outside of that the next fewest amount of points by a team is 94 when Ovechkin won in 2008. Its extremely rare for a winner to play for a team with fewer than 100 points. Its only happened 4 times since 2000 in a full season.
So I’d disqualify anyone on a team that projects to have fewer than 95 points. So as of today I’d only consider players on Tampa Bay, Buffalo, Montreal, Boston, Carolina, Pittsburgh, Colorado, Dallas and Minnesota. Edmonton currently projects to be at 93 points, so you can maybe add them.
So my real candidates are Kucherov, Pasternak, MacKinnon and possibly McDavid. I really want to say Crosby but Pittsburgh’s big run came after the Olympics when he was hurt, and Karlsson remembering he’s really good at hockey is the bigger part of their story. Buffalo to me is the surprise of the season, and Dahlin is the straw that stirs that drink, so I like him as a pick too.
Kucherov
Nick Leddy
Doan in Buffalo.
If the sharks make the playoffs it has to go to Celebrini right? This guy took the sharks from dead last 2 years in a row to potential playoff spot and has almost double the points of the next closest person on his team to him. (he has 107 Smith has 55)
I don’t think anyone else has as much of a case, but if they don’t make playoffs i think it’s really hard to give it to him.
Celebrini. He’s carried the Sharks all year
Least inconspicuous attempt at selling Celebrini as MVP.
Still should go to Kucherov. More points, similar ratios and a huge part of the reason why his team is leading its division compared to one that’s not even making the playoffs in a historically bad conference.
***22.41% difference from 2nd place.***
If the Hart Trophy goes to the Most Valuable Player to his team, then by definition, the award already belongs to Macklin Celebrini regardless of whether the Sharks make the playoffs or not.
Celebrini or Kuch.
Celeweenie
Celebrini. Hes carrying the entire team on his back.
Take away Celebrini from the Sharks and they would be a punching bag literally
Holy smokes Zach is the only D on there.
If sharks make it I say Celebrini. If not probably Kucherov but it’s razor thin between the big 3. No wrong choice.
Kuch wins off Recency bias, but its Mackinnon for me. Mack started on a ridiculous place and had Colorado safely in the playoffs by Christmas…
Celebrini should only be considered if they make the playoffs to be honest
*I made a spreadsheet with the top 5 scorers on all 32 teams. I looked at the percentage of team goals that each player was involved in and then sorted the list by difference between 1st and 2nd for each team.*
*Looking at total points, points per game, team goals points percentage, and percentage difference from 2nd… who would be your vote for the Hart Trophy (most valuable player) and why?*
Not the criteria indicated by this spreadsheet.
Honestly, whomever the best player is brings the most value to his team, and therefore is the most valuable to his team.
Celebrini is becoming a superstar before his time, but he’s not the best player this season.
I’m tempted to give it to McDavid because he’s ahead of MacKinnon in the scoring race and plays a position with more defensive responsibilities than Kucherov.
And I’m an Oilers fan so I’m biased as fuck.
The Hart Memorial Trophy is an annual award given « to the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team. »
I’m still going to give this to Kucherov, who is both outstanding and similarly valuable to his team as Celibrini. Kucherov is 40 pts. ahead of Guentzel for scoring on the Lightning. He is a massive, massive part of that team’s success. And he’s missed games on top of that.
If sharks make it, Celebrini.
If they dont, Kuch.
Itll probably come down to Mackinnon or Kucherov. My vote would go to Mackinnon.
If the Sharks make it to the playoffs then it should be Celebrini. Kid turned that team completely around. They have a chance but the race for the wildcard slot is tight as hell.
Sebastien???? Aho?
Celebrini should probably get it. But Kucherov or Mackinnon getting it wouldn’t be outrageous.
Kuch
Kuch.
My case for Pastrnak based off Matthews Hart trophy win in 2022
Finishing 6th in the points race
almost 20 points behind McDavid
Selke level defense, despite the fact his defensive impact is rarely ranked among the league’s top specialized defensive forwards.
Most valuable player to his team
(Pastrnak 97 points, next closest teammate Geekie 63 points)
(Matthews 106, Marner 97, Nylander 80, Tavares 76)
In 2020 it was claimed that a player may never reach the 60 goal mark ever again
Pastrnak scored 61 goals in 2022-2023
Celebrini is my pick
Fil really has been carrying the team on his back lately. Stamkos is 2 goals ahead, but Fil really does it all
It’s gotta be Kucherov. Yes Celebrini has been amazing, but Kuch deserves it.
I’d love to see some defensive metrics included in the conversation.
Its Kuch. The West is so bad that the Sharks might make the playoffs. That’s not a reason to give it to Celebrini.
I’m a Sabres fan and it’s Kuch all day. He has missed 6 games, Point missed almost 20. Hagel is out now, and he has missed 8 games, Cirelli missed 9 and Hedman sucks now. Dude plays with Goncalves, and on PP with Björkstrand. Nick Paul has missed like half the season.
Tampa is not deep anymore, but Kuch has pushed them to the top of the best division in hockey.
Mcdavid, oilers are bottom of the league if he’s not on the team
I still think think it should be mcdavid, cause oilers would not be in qualifying position let alone in thr first place in pacific if it wasn’t for him.. kucherov, mackinnon have a alot star power around them and as for celebrini I think its still too ealry for him. He is top 5 player this season for sure.
They really need to re label the Hart as Teams most Valuable Player and move the Ted Lindsay to the top prize.
As Celebrini is more important to his team. But Kuch is the best player in the league
If sharks make the playoffs, Celebrini. If he was not on that team they would be among the bottom of the standings. He’s pretty valuable if he can carry a roster of nobodies into the post season.
