Only way to get to the parking lot king is for that place to be 2018 Pistons empty next year.

People need to stop supporting this shit.

Not the news I wanted to wake up to today…

  3. xenonwarrior666

The boys have trouble starting on time. The boys have trouble closing games out

If it wasn’t for the second period we’d be completely fucked

    What a joke

  4. chipper124

Would any other team in the league keep their GM after 7 years and three straight collapses in March?

  5. probablyindecisive

    Honestly how did they lose?

I wasn’t able to watch the game, but I looked at the score with something like 40 seconds left in the 3rd. I wake up today to see they lost. Really pathetic.

    It’s time.

    Steve needs to go.

Time to restart the rebuild. Trade Larkin, let him go win somewhere. Get rid of anyone and everyone not named mo.

Give mo the C and blow it all up.

  7. MarketNovel4853

another offseason of me being more excited at who they get rid of vs bring in… sigh

  8. Life_is_a_meme_204

The fanbase needs to collectively run Dylan Larkin out of town the way Toronto ran out Dion Phaneuf or Larry Murphy.

People blaming the guy with 30 goals the last 4 seasons for this teams failure is absolutely hilarious. We’re gonna be a hot destination for star players surely. “Leadership!” You can’t lead 6 AHLers to be better than full NHL teams for 50 games of the season. This is all on yzerman, full stop, anything else is cope.

  10. redlion1904

Not to silver-lining-hunt, but has Edvinsson played himself *out* of a giant extension? I feel like he was looking at a Seider-esque deal in January but with this collapse are we looking at a bridge?

  11. big_phat_gator

TIL: 7 years is all you weak fair-weather fans can handle. Im neither surprised or disappointed. Im feeling good for minimum another 7 seasons. Take your time Steve, i will still be here.

This subreddit (myself included) is not prepared for how little will happen this summer. The organization will point to injuries, bad luck, strength of competition in the East, our modest improvement in point total over last season, etc. to suggest that we’re on-track despite some speed bumps this season. When in reality we actually started playing badly before the Olympics and the annual March collapse, but had Gibson standing on his head.

I firmly believe all we’ll see is some turnover in vets on expiring contracts and very little else. Prove me wrong Stevie!

So what stage of grief are you guys in? I’m in acceptance and it’s an easier watch these days

  14. culturedrobot

So next year we just have to hit 95 points before whatever break we have in February

  15. L3ftHandPass

I wonder what toolsy two-way future 4th line centre Yzerman and Draper were looking at before trading the 1st round pick this year?

  16. Artistic-Evidence332

Wait we lost??? I turned the game off at the end of the 3rd and we were up😭

  17. Curdled_Mangasm

time to give some GR players a look before their playoffs start and shut down about half the detroit roster the rest of the way. you wanna send a message? there’s a message.

I thought about making a separate thread for this, but I’ll just put it here instead. The only thing I’m sad about with the way the year has gone is that this year was our centennial, but what is apparent to me is that the Wings, much like my Baltimore Ravens, are a Managed Victory team.

By that I mean, management will do just enough (drafting and trading) to be competitive without having an urgency to win the championship. This is something I think fans have to probably start accepting about all sports. A part of the reason I came back to watching hockey after not being engaged for a few years, is because I thought the NHL was immune from this reality of modern day sports.

Sports today, sadly, is pseudo-entertainment for pure profit. The goal isn’t to win, it’s extract the most value (money) out of the commitment of fans. Higher ticket prices, more luxury boxes, gigantic and fabulous taxpayer funded stadiums, largely mediocre teams trading off of the history of a franchise or the American fascination/obsession with professional sports.

Thanks for indulging my mini rant.

Which old free agent is Yzerman gonna target this offseason? Nick Foligno? Lars Eller? Probably overdue to bring back Gustav Nyquist.

  20. LGRW_Sparty88

Watching the last four games will be interesting. In the past we won a lot of games after being mathematically eliminated. Maybe we get some good entertaining games before the long long offseason.

This has been the first season I’ve watched in ten years and it’s been a wild ride. I accepted our fate a while ago, but I’m excited to be back into it at all. Who is everyone’s going to root for during the playoffs?

  22. I’m curious what this fanbase thinks of JT Miller now.

  23. WingsNation

I agree that there are cultural problems in this organization. I agree there are talent problems on this team. I agree there are GAF problems during games. I don’t agree that Larkin needs to go, unless of course it is part of a packaged deal for a true upgrade. I’m not convinced he should be “the guy” on this team, but I do think he can be complimentary with a good supporting cast.

Next, I don’t know if I see next year improving. Most of the dead weight will still be under contract. Unless Yzerman goes on a coke-fueled bender and manages to make some aggressive deals and buyouts, I think fans are gonna have to settle in for a tough 2-3 years before an overhaul is possible. The offseason will be interesting and I’m here for it.

Question for all the Michigan-based fans here as someone who isn’t from the area, do you actually care if this roster includes a large number of players with ties to Michigan? Seems like the team has a heavy focus on bringing in players that were either born in Michigan or player college hockey there but most of them don’t seem to be very good and the really good ones (Kyle Connor for example) don’t want to come here.

The broadcast always loves to pump up the Michigan aspect but personally I would rather they focus on getting the best players they can as opposed to focusing heavily on what geographical area they come from. I wonder if this is an actual mandate they want to base their roster around or if it’s just easier to convince players that have lived here before to actually come to Detroit and they have no choice.

  25. RWHockey13

If there is a stinker it is that there is nothing to watch regarding the draft this summer. In regard to Yzerman, what does he do in the off-season? More re-treads? More 35+ plus signings? We all hope not for sure.

I would like to think he will try and do something to get someone if available: Wright, McTavish, etc.

  26. RWHockey13

The off-season acquisition that paid off the most was Gibson. Outside of that (exception being Kane), there is nothing that really helped the roster.
