I am sure Donnie is loving that Dhali broke this on twitter and not on their show which starts in 20 minutes lol
We need to keep our best shot blocker.
Good, cause he’s gonna get promoted in a week (or not and then he’ll leave pissed)
If you’re blocking a promotion then you are 120% hiring that guy or it looks reaaallly bad.
Coloured me shocked! But I’m not surprised, they’ve put lots of time into RJ and I’m sure they see him as the next one
Whether or not he gets promoted to General Manager, I hope they can keep him in the organization. Especially if Malhotra is the coach.
Even if they keep the Front Office in tact, and just promote Manny:
– President: Rutherford
– GM/Amateur Scouting: Allvin
– AGM/Player Development/Abby GM: Johnson
– AGM/Cap/Contracts: Castonguay
– AGM/Pro Scouting: Granato
Even if you want to see changes to the Front Office, it would suck to lose Ryan Johnson.
I’ll be furious if that was only to keep him in Abby. RJ and Manny deserve to become GM and HC of the big club ~~this summer~~ on the first day of this offseason.
I remember a few years ago Friedman said that the opinion around the league on RJ was high and that he would be a future GM someday, so I’m not surprised. He’s like the only major hold over from the Benning regime on the management side so they obviously like him

« everything is fluid » when there is no plan
The logic in me says that means Johnson will be joining the Front Office. The Canucks fan in me thinks it’s just to block him from taking another job and he’ll leave without us offering him a thing.
Ryan Johnson GM Tyler Myers head coach make it happen
Good
What has RJ done to deserve a raise or promotion? Abbotsford success last year was on the players and Manny. Not him. Tired of this old boys club
Rutherford and Allvin better be gone before the draft
I hate the term « everything is fluid. »
Anyway, we are in rebuild mode now. Fire all of management and coaches. Let’s reset the organization by installing people who LOVE the Canucks and who know us inside and out.
Make Ryan Johnson GM, fire Allvin & Rutherford.
Make Manny Malhotra head coach, fire Adam Foote.
Even if we’re in the bottom of the league for another 3-5 years, build around the good guys now that will take you to the promised land later. Montreal appointed Martin St. Louis during the 21-22 season. Look at them 4 years from now.
I can imagine by what metric they could even justify bringing back the GM or coach to the Canucks. I would argue Rutherford needs to go to but usually president gets one GM firing and two coach firings before they’re gone. I hope they clean house though!
Promoting RJ and Manny are the most logical moves we can make right now
I don’t know if I’m sold. He’s done a decent job with Abbotsford but what else? At least it’s somewhat of a change of the guard as opposed to « he’s right with JR or came up with JR in Carolina »
Its meh. More of a lateral move if anything.
Johnson is a really smart guy. His interviews when he was a player were another level (an old soul, someone once said), and he’s shown (as much as possible) that he has the makings of a pretty smart GM
Think it’s happening pretty soon then with all this chatter. Allvin and Foote out for Ryan and manny
Don’t get me wrong our AHL team was superb last year which Johnson helped oversee. And in the end, if you have the right process, work ethic and skills, that matters more than results when you aren’t the actual head (that was Benning and now JR/PA). He seems to have the right connections with multiple people speaking very highly of him. But I still find it funny that other teams are like the Canucks organization is where I want my next GM to come from.
It’s a tough one because on one hand I’d love for them to do something they’ve never done, a comprehensive search process where they interview a range of candidates and pick the best one.
However, RJ is highly regarded within the industry and we’d regret losing him (and Manny) to a different franchise. If two amateurs come in, then keeping JR for another year makes sense. But at the same time, he’s the main decision maker responsible for this mess and he really should go with Allvin.
If there was a way to promote RJ and bring in a new experienced POHO then I’d be all for it, but not sure how realistic that is.
good. maybe there’s an agreement with rutherford to keep him around for 1 more year and then bring on RJ.
