I think we need to go forward. There is nothing we need more than secondary scoring. I get this class is riddled with studs on the blue line. But we’ve used our last few top picks to choose dman (Salomonsson, Freij, Boumedienne). We desperately need scoring. If we miss out on the top 2, I’m doing what I can to land the likes of Malholtra. Even Bjork. He’s undersized, but dominant. Watching Caufield this year, undersized does not mean ineffective. Both C’s who are good all over the ice.
in theory, Jets need a centre more than a d-man. you hope Freij and Boumedienne turn into NHL players. Freij is 2 seasons away, minimum. Boum is 3.
You hope Walton is an NHL centre in 2 years, but that’s pushing it.
(as an aside, that means that the cupboard’s bare as fuck for next year. Having Zhilkin, Chibby and Lambert all potentially added to the club doesn’t move the needle much).
So the Jets are really thin both at D and C, but I’d take the C due to faster development time.
The Jets need to miss the playoffs.
I know the owners like getting to the playoffs for financial reasons but the Jets can’t acquire top tier talent without drafting it and you have a way better chance to acquire it when you pick higher.
IF.
Personally I think we are going to need a franchise forward as 55 starts aging out. Lowry as well.
KFC was excellent and is only 29. Perfetti had a tough year but I think that injury was nagging him throughout the season. He finished pretty strong. Vilardi has been tremendous. Coepke also had a good second half and I think Barron is so versatile and effective. Lambert played well too. This is a solid core for the next couple of years.
But beyond that, we need some exciting young offensive talent who can blossom into a leader. I have high hopes for Yager but think he can be an excellent 2C.
Fuck I get so jealous when I watch the Habs play. Hell Suzuki, Caufield (same age as Fetts), Slafkovsky, Demidov, Hustson, Dobes and even Kappenen all have crazy potential.
This year is allegedly a strong draft which is why I was really hoping for a top 3 pick. It’s not over yet, but just missing the playoffs could be a problem if we don’t get lucky with our pick.
On D, I am less worried long term as Salomonsson and Samberg are both young while Morrisey and Pionk have some good years left.
The only two players who help us next year are McKenna and Stenberg.
I believe Verhoeff is worth waiting a year for if we have the opportunity to draft him.
Outside of that, I think we should trade the pick.
One caveat: if we pick like 12th and Lawrence falls to us I think we should take him. His floor is like Rasmus Kupari – a centre who can skate but not do much else, but he’s one of the youngest players in the NCAA this year and has been an extremely effective top line centre at every level when playing against his peers until his recent promotion to the NCAA.
Viggo Björck, YOU are a Winnipeg Jet.
Interesting. Daxon Rudolph would be an interesting pick. We do have a good track record with offensive D-men from the WHL.
The rankings are all over the place outside the top-5 or so which could be very good for the Jets.
I looked at this draft sim, compared with [TSN’s Button](https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/article/craigs-list-mckenna-reigns-at-no-1-ruck-twins-make-rapid-rise/) and [Sportsnet’s Bukala](https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/scouts-analysis-latest-ranking-of-nhls-2026-draft-class/) for comparison.
Just looking at the centres potentially in our range (Sim Ranking, Button Ranking, Bukala Ranking):
Lawrence (9, 17,11)
Suvanto (14, 9, 27)
Command (29, 16, 28)
Malhotra (6, 11, 5)
Who know what will happen. Maybe we’ll get some trading up or down given the uncertainty.
Definitely need to use it on a C. Desperately need a good 2C, and soon enough a 1C.
