coaching was never the problem with islanders. problem with islanders is they have no talented o-men (horvath and barzal are mediocre at best), they have crappy d-men who dont know how to play defense, and crappy o-men who also dont know how to play defense, and a starting goalie who yes does make great saves every now and then but also lets in bad goals. best thing for me as an NYI fan is the oppurtunity to see more of the younger players make the team next year. time to get rid of alot of the older players (let some other sucker of a team have them).

Detroit loses, so Ottawa (and Boston) are now in. Unlike the metropolitan teams, Detroit's only way into the playoffs was the wild card. It is amazing considering Detroit was once 10 points clear of making the playoffs . Now it it is just a question of who gets the first wild card and who gets the second.
