@Red Wings de Détroit

Wish I could upvote this 19 times to show the respect deserved.

  2. I mean the team has improved every year. I dont see why he would be fired. Its not his fault we got f’ed over every time we could of won the daft lottery. Only thing im pissed about is him trading for perron I think his off season some big moves will be made. Hopefully the dead weight is dropped raz, jt, apple , perron

I mean we all knew this.

No change is going to happen until fans don’t show up and that won’t happen since too many people have core memories and warm fuzzy memories from their childhood.

I don’t think Yzerman should be given the boot, necessarily, but I do think it’s time to see if he can think on his feet and adjust his strategy. What he’s done so far clearly hasn’t gotten the team over the hump and something needs to change.

With regards to the players: The leadership core needs to look in the mirror and really decide what kind of team they want to be. Like McCarty said recently: They have to hate losing more than they like winning. Every loss should fuel them in the next game but for this team, losing has become so commonplace that it’s normal.

I don’t think he needs to go, but the roster needs a major reset. We have a few young players to tool around.

I’m happy with the direction of the organization. I wouldn’t be surprised if the core he drafts and develops exceeds the results of the placeholder team he stapled together and still exceeded expectations. That shouldn’t be surprising to anyone. We actually have capital to go many different directions with excellent cap structure. But you guys know all of this so I don’t know why I have to tell you everyday.

Compher cannot be anywhere near this team next year.

Build the District Detroit if you aren’t going to build a decent team, bastards.

  9. Tock_Sick_Man

If the Ducks clinch a spot, Detroit will be the only team in the NHL to have not qualified for the playoffs during Yzerman’s time as GM.

Yzerman has to be pretty frustrated. The team can still finish with more points than several playoff teams and past Detroit playoff teams.

But also the team’s performance down the stretch was extremely poor. He didn’t bring in McLellan for Blashill results.

There’s got to be some changes this offseason.

When we became more concerned with making the playoffs rather then winning championships is when this all started going south. Yes It was under Ken’s watch but winning all those cups were also on his watch. It’s easy to sit here and pick apart everything Steve has done ( I’m as guilty as anyone) but we don’t know all the details and that’s not fair to anyone. We don’t know what kind of moves he tried to make . We don’t know who wants to play here. One thing Steve has never done is make excuses.

I know people are pissed but Yzerman has signaled all along he’s putting temporary placeholders in spots until prospects can come up. Getting DeBrincat and Kane and Gibson was smart to keep them competitive. I’m not saying “trust the Yzerplan” necessarily but I’m not sure who else he could have gotten to build differently. I really think the issue is team leadership, I’m leaning toward moving Larkin to jolt the team and get a different style player. When you’re waiting on prospects it really does take a long, long time.

  13. 7 years of bad free agency, missing on top talent, and blowing the Hughes trade. He should be shown the door. What other GM could fail for 7 years and keep their job. Anybody saying otherwise has been brainwashed.

  14. Zealousideal_Bet3941

Chris Ilitch might not even know the season’ over.

  15. robgreenee327

I’d make the argument this is the best decision possible. The mentality to constantly turn over teams is a short sighted move and doesn’t actually increase the likelihood of winning the cup. There is too much emphasis on just making the playoffs. Honestly I blame that more than anything for why no Canadian team has won a Stanley cup than the establishment of the salary cap. Even with a roster of filler players that were just meant to raise the floor this team has improved enough to just land out off the playoffs in a very difficult division this season.

I’m sick of the nepotism surrounding this team. Blow up the management and bring in some outside counsel. Chris Illich is also a bitch.

  17. J_the_ManSSB

In order for Yzerman to turn this around, he would have to have the most un-Yzerman like offseason ever.

Actually, he’d have to have an offseason unlike most GMs could even have at this point.

And that’s why Yzerman should not be allowed another offseason. He hasn’t done anything to make me believe in him.

  18. GoldEditor7047

Awful. Pizza boy should sell this team if he isn’t willing to make necessary changes at the GM. This team will win nothing of note under Yzerman.

  19. fissi0n-chips

The mushy middle will continue until morale improves.

  20. Great. More low ceiling safe two way defensive forwards to be put in the pipeline. They might get 20 NHL games in 4 years!

  21. What I’ve heard is that those two have known each other forever. They’re the same age, so Yzerman has been around since Chris was 18. He’s practically a member of the family. For better or worse, he was never going to be treated like just another GM.

  22. panicstreak

Even if Illich wanted to fire 19, the new GM would be saddled with the same problem. No first round pick, commitments to Copp, Compher, Rasmussen and Appleton, and no difference makers coming. A new teardown couldn’t begin until 27-28.

  23. Jimmyskis77

So we’re an unserious organization who’d rather prop up an aging legend as GM instead of hiring someone who can actually build a roster…

  24. SipowiczNYPD

Shouldn’t surprise anyone. Chris Illitch is the in a race to become the worst owner in sports. He is actively tanking the 2 franchises his dad gave to him. Dude is the definition of nepo baby.

  25. meatballcake87

They’re aligned because Chris Ilitch knows 19,000 suckers will still buy tickets to every home game no matter how good or bad the team is, and he won’t have to make a tough decision firing a franchise legend for not doing a good job

  26. PlakeSnisskin

Wasn’t this the cover story in the recent issue of Shit I Already Knew magazine?
