My personal thoughts are that yeah, if you’re not intending on keeping some of these higher level positions, you’re probably not letting them hand out contracts to retain their choice of staff members. I’m assuming Rutherford still stays but everyone else goes. I can’t see them finding another POHO with how things have gone. Him sticking around to hire a different group is better to me than Aquilini picking the people he wants.
I can’t see them turning over the whole scouting staff though. That seems kinda drastic. Maybe the Pro Scouting side sure, but Amateur Scouting I wouldn’t be in favour of dismissing them all. Not sure if Todd Harvey would be among the people with expiring contracts, but would expect at least he would finish out his term like Brackett did before he left.
If there was every to do a house cleaning it would be now. Set the table for the long rebuild.
Five alarm! Five Alarm! Five Alarm!
What are the employment options for a laid off hockey scout? Seems like such a niche profession. Are there just a few of them that bounce between teams, like coaches and gms?
Rutherford is the problem. Get rid of him
Leave Todd Harvey alone, he’s still winding up and getting better and better results by the draft.
Henning’s time as Director of PS is most likely coming to an end along with Chapman+Crawford+Komadowski. I can see them giving Delorme the Stan+Gradin route too.
I think Harvey will stay as he reports to Cammi so unless Cammi is getting booted I dont see him leaving. You gotta remember he only took charge of drafts in 2022 cuz the previous 2.5 years were fully run by JB+JW. That was the reason why Judd left cuz JB wanted full authority over drafts and chucked out everyone that didn’t agree with letting him run drafts. He hasn’t done a poor job in the 3 drafts he been in charge of I get the sense Cammi views him highly.
The only Q i have is ytf will Allvin stay if he gets demoted when is the last time u hear a GM get demoted and stays with the organization?
I hope they keep the scouting staff as imho they have done a nice job with how few picks they have had.
I just don’t want to see this as an excuse for Michael Doyle to cut even more of the team’s infrastructure. All the team’s progressive infrastructure under Gillis was destroyed by Doyle and he was all too happy when Benning was a team of one, not listening to assistants or scouts.
This team has continuously been a top 10-15 revenue generating franchise in the NHL and is a big reason why the SN TV contract is valued so high. Stop nickel and dimming when you run at a healthy profit. It’s getting freaking old
Is the team still paying Jim Benning. Put him to work!
That is definitely a good start, with new ideas. I don’t believe in rebuilds, they are for losers. Give me the odds of great teams ever rebuilding. I’ll give you great examples why rebuilds our bullshit. When the Boston Bruins beat us, did they ever rebuild? No, they kept on making the playoffs and adding young talent to the roster. The draft means nothing to me in my opinion, you might get lucky and you might not. Look at the Edmonton Oilers all those years with first round picks, they did nothing until now. My opinion is that the GM is the key to any successful team. At this point Patrick Alvin is not a good GM, he had his chance but now he needs to go. Why can’t we pick a GM from previous successful teams they built. Joe sakic from Colorado or George McPhee from the Las Vegas golden knights. This is how you start a winning team is from the top down.
I bet we see a coaching staff clearout, but not any higher up.
getting rid of the entire scouting dept right before a rebuild? hope they have replacements ready to go or the draft will be a disaster
