I love Zach, but when you have a 6 game losing slide after being #2 in the metro, you can’t blame it all on injuries and say “we care.” I don’t think Zach is the problem, but everyone can see the lack of effort.
Zachs presser was horrible im sorry, his attitude responding to Bones is exactly whats wrong with this team. Im sick of hearing « we care in the locker room », and not seeing the care on the ice down the stretch. The whole team came out flat every game and played sloppy, didnt make up for it with physicality. Only guys id give a pass to are Jet, Fantilli and Mateychuk those guys looked locked in every game, Fantilli especially scoring 3 game tying goals down the stretch.
Bring bones back for a year teach these boys what it means to hate losing
These interviews and their responses were exactly why Bones is right. They could use a wake up like his.
I’m jumping around and not watching these in order but man it feels like Zach is disconnected from the group and Boone is trying to say what he thinks people want to hear
Real talk…Sillinger needs to be on C watch after that interview one day
Z should not be gifted the C if/when Jenner moves on. If anything we should go captain-less for awhile and see who rises to the challenge. I would give A’s to Fantilli and Sillinger simply for the effort they showed on the ice. Maybe it translates to a locker room presence.
I have no desire to listen to them, did any of them say the way they finished is unacceptable?
When Provorov said he thought the media/fans/critics said they should « Cut the player some slack » I nearly lost my mind. Provorov clearly is one of the guys who has no problem losing and isn’t interested in being criticized. That was one of the most tone deaf responses I can imagine giving when the failures were a product of the guy ON THE ICE.
Trade them all. Anyone not taking accountability can find themselves shipped to fucking Winnapeg.
We could get a kings ransom for Werenski.
Rebuild with it
None of these fucking bums deserve to be here.
I am not going to watch this. I have seen enough from the quotes that have come out already that I do not need to be any more irritated than I already am.
After ALL the losing they have done, yet another end of year choke job, and they hear a experienced NHL coach go off on them for their performance and this is their response? This is the « well, I don’t like/agree with what he said. »
HOLY F**K does that scare me. What the hell are you on about? This group hasn’t won sh*t, have run off one coach after another, and yet they keep going « well, we don’t see it that way. We disagree with the coach. »
Body language speaks louder than words and Marchenko smirking at hearing Bones’ « practice » comment tells you everything.
I plan on watching these later and will update this comment with quick summaries for each interview:
Zach: Thought bones was too heated, wants everyone to « take a good look in the mirror ». He believes everyone in the room cares but they need to learn to win. Disagrees with bones in the « hate to lose » aspect, but he does admit that they weren’t good enough down the stretch and that he’ll be the first to self reflect. He openly admitted that he and the team stopped caring as much when they were in a playoff spot.
Ivan: Very similar answers to Zach. Mentioned the 3rd period failings need to stop and that it would be disrespectful to the fans if they didn’t want to win. Some people here have claimed that Ivan said the players should be cut slack, however he was only referring specifically to the comments made by Bones yesterday (likely due to the fact that every question he was asked was about said comments)
Sean: Doesn’t agree with Bones but admits that the failings are all on the players. Unable to pinpoint an exact problem of the team. Admits he was injured but he doesn’t use it as an excuse, he was disappointed in his season and recognizes the importance of playing better.
Boone: Admits they didn’t have enough of a compete level. Mentioned habits, work ethic, and team game slipped down the stretch. Didn’t believe the injuries had a huge impact. (Big PR answers, it seems quite difficult to get real personal answers out of Boone. Too much use of « we » when he’s the captain that is supposed to keep everyones habits and team game correct)
—————–
Kirill: Obviously bit of a language barrier here but he quite apparently doesn’t agree with Bones at all, explains that he’ll grow and improve and be better as a player. He’ll spend time thinking about the season overall and he’s not playing to his potential. Mentions the annoyance of missing « empty nets » and how the games could have easily changed if he scored more. He seems rather jolly but that’s likely more due to the fact that he doesn’t get interviewed often than him laughing at bones’ suggestions like some people are trying to twist. Though his ending comment of « I can’t think much about the team because I can’t control it » doesn’t look great on paper and there could be an underlying reason as to why he has had so many failed attempts at taking on 3-4 players on the opposing team.
Adam: (He’s one of the few that seems to have put in a ton of effort even through the drought, so obviously he’s going to be a little sensitive on the topic) Extremely similar responses as Zach, even down to the slight annoyance towards bones. Starting to understand the way he has to play to reach the playoffs, and relies heavily on the leaders inside the locker room. Really wants to be one of the players to bring the team into the playoffs. Really wants to grow as a leader, which is nice to hear. Admits this season was a failure if they didn’t make the playoffs. Good captain energy a few years from now.
Cole: Says that it’s his job to never be complacent and always improve. Unlike a lot of the other interviews he does not say anything in disagreement to Bones. He says that he was more focused on the emotion of the interview and not one specific thing that was said. Says the foundation of what was overcame has been special, he doesn’t outright say he wants a culture change but mentions how there is always room for improvement. Says that despite hating losing, « nobody in the room has won ». It’s up to them to bring the best out of each other. Has a lot of trust in the changes during the offseason and he says that they shouldn’t just be satisfied with a playoff berth but the expectations should be to win the Stanley Cup. I like this kid.
Mason: Specifically mentioned how the injuries set the season off course, especially Olivier’s. He says that their 2 month run wasn’t an accident and he sees the makes of a playoff team. He talked about the third period collapses in the first part of the year and how putting the effort in there can give them leeway for later slumps. Really respects Bones’ method and doesn’t seem to have any hard feelings towards his comments. In fact, he said that he loves Bones’ passion and he sees the importance in it. I’d love to keep this guy.
—————–
Erik: Lots of the same talking points. Said they played a lot of really good hockey in a lot of the losses (probably referring to the games over 30+ SOG). He says the biggest takeaway is going to be learning how to keep that [playoff] spot. He says he really wants to be back here, mentions not just his family but also unfinished business that he wants to come back and be a part of. Similar to Zach he says that as soon as they reached a playoff spot they lost sight of the games/hours in front of them. « Everybody has mirrors in their house ». Biggest thing from this interview I noticed is how like Cole, Erik seems to be very focused on the Cup. He mentions that every years it hurts more to see someone else win it and that’s the expectation he puts on himself.
Charlie: Only player so far that outright says that Bones’ comments were warranted. He’s not complaining about Bones’ passion. He says that the leadership and locker room needed for a cup are already there. Commit and culture could be better and fine tuned, but it’s not far off. Mentions how despite his 13 year playoff streak ending, that it’s more upsetting for the team as a whole to miss the playoffs and not just himself (I’m assuming after losing game 7 to the Blues in 2019 one becomes a little calloused towards lower disappointments). He mentions how slowly tweaking culture is always important. (He even appreciates the lack of traffic in Columbus!) Could see himself here once the unknowns are figured out.
Jet: (You can guess how this interview went). Mentions stuff he wants to improve, he enjoyed the workload of the games he had. Learned what it takes to have so many close fitting games. Said there was growth and there was always room to improve, each person has to get better, etc. He wants to play at the highest level in every situation and learn through new experiences. I love jet.
Coyle by far gave the most real and thoughtful answers out of the group. If the answer is in the room, he’s part of the equation for sure
Two GMS, Three coaches, problem is inside the room.

Coyle and sillinger were the only good ones. Coyle needs to be resigned for that attitude alone. Dude is a winner and knows what it takes.
Wow, so it *is* possible to have an even lower opinion of Provorov.
