He threw a cooler at a fleeing criminal at a drug bust. Yeah free him.

I think raising money for someone convicted of manslaughter is a very disappointing choice

Disgusting. Punish them by retroactively taking points off their season tally, and if that accidentally gives them better lottery odds in the draft, well that’s just a price we’ll all have to be willing to pay.

there are so many other things they could have donated to that nobody would have said anything about. so dumb.

I love the Islanders. Really do. But who is there marketing/advertising person at UBS?! This is the second (known) controversial issue this season. Earlier it was posting ICE recruitment flyers in there UBS brochure earlier in the year. Just stay out of politics. Please. The last thing we need is Islander fans having to pick political sides during a game. We go to get away from politics.

Regardless of how you feel about the case, the 50/50 that night had kids on the concourse selling the raffle tickets to benefit Macie’s Mission, a charity that raises awareness and funding for research of Pompe disease/other rare diseases. I met the people who were there from the organization, learned a little bit about it, and left with their brochure to learn more about their mission on their website. I had a non-profit for two and a half decades; I know how hard raising funds and awareness can be.

« *The team also said it would direct a quarter of proceeds from a 50/50 raffle toward the cause, the union said.* »
« *Vallelong declined to say how much money was raised for the legal defense fund. The 50/50 raffle took in $44,890, according to the Islander’s website.* »

We can math – proceeds from a $44,890 50/50 raffle is $22,445. A quarter of that is $5,611.25. **They took $5,611.25 from an organization started by parents who started the organization following the diagnosis of their 9 day old daughter.** LOPD can be terminal. And the Islanders decided that it was worth taking $5,611.25 from them to funnel to a legal defense fund. It’s morally reprehensible to let this organization work all night to raise money for a 50/50 that they should have benefitted fully from, and also to allow supporters to buy tickets without transparency on exactly what cause they were supporting. I am beyond disgusted by the underhanded tactics used here.

Also – « *Vallelong said « the arena blew up into applause » when Duran’s photograph appeared on the video screen.* » It did not. Some people definitely clapped, but blew up is a gross overstatement.
