Pens Flyers will be the most interesting series out of these four
For as much credit as Dubas is (rightfully) getting, Briere put together a comparable year too. Fleeced the Leafs for Laughton, signed Vladar and Dvorak, drafted Martone, traded for Zegras. His bets all paid off too
Re : Vasy's last few playoffs – the man's been recovering from back surgery, the fact that he was a workhorse goalie for a playoff team is already u n r e a l. Go habs but every team in the league fears him for good reason
All that needs to be said is Pens vs Flyers Primetime 8pm Saturday Hockey Night! TV execs believe this game will bring the highest ratings. A few other notes about this series. The Philly market is massive and they have not (along with the pens) been to the playoffs in many years (narrative +), they are playing their cross-state rivals (narrative +), Crosby, Malkin, Letang have played together for seemingly two decades; hoisting three stanley cups over that time (narrative +). The Flyers have a young team that has had the best record in the NHL since the Olympic break, playing against what could possibly be Crosby's (a Mount Rushmore player) who essentially with Ovechiken practically saved HOCKEY after the lockout, while being the greatest player of his generation (20 years!) and possibly playing in his last playoffs (narrative +++). The evidence for why this is at the very least the most hyped eastern Conf 1st round series) is in bright NEON lights and the middle guy wants to talk about Canes and Sens is a bad take. It happens. Keystone State battle ftw. P.S. Crosby is undefeated against the flyers in his tenure, but wait lets go watch this awesome 1st line center for Ottawa, and the Canes who last won the cup in the 2000's and are about the breakthrough (and maybe they do), but Crosby (Malkin and even Letang-Karlsson resurgence is cool storyline) deserves way more respect than you are giving him, they found a fountain of youth for possibly their last playoffs ever after Crosby has averaged at least 1 point per game for 21 years…Rich Tochett is the head coach of the Flyers, he won 3 Cups with the Pens. And this guy wants to see Canes and Sens in primetime instead. The money and ratings disagree at the very least.
Pens Flyers is always fire. Shame on you
Nice to see Fairburn added to the 'show.'
So glad to see Matthew fairburn on the show he has been a great reporter for a bad team for years
As someone who is not a fan of any of these teams, here's which matchups I'm most excited to watch, in order:
1. Flyers v Penguins
2. Canadiens v Lightning
3. Sabres v Bruins
4. Sens v Canes
To be honest, the battle of PA is in a whole different category from the other matchups. It's got: Sidney Crosby back in the playoffs for one of the last times in his career, probably; an aging Pittsburgh team that wasn't expected to be this good; the Flyers, that defied all odds and made it; insanely good Porter Martone; the re-birth of Zegras; young star Matvei Michkov…. and a whole lot of history of these teams hating one another.
On the other hand, while I hope the Sens win, I thinks Sens v Canes will be kind of boring.
Canes #2 in scoring, 7 — 20 goal scorers, a 70 point scorer on the 3rd line and a system that will frustrate the Sens that once you shut down 3 players the team loses. Also, Ghost is the X factor 50 points in 55 games
Canes in 5
Dahlin is the second best player in the series behind Pasta
Dahlin is no doubt a great player but Pasta is a different animal
The Bruins are playing with house money in this “retool” year, finished only 9pts behind the Sabres it’s not like they were way back lol
I think the Sabres don’t really have an answer to the true variety of lines that Boston has. Pasta Geekie Lindholm is good, Arvy Zacha Middlestadt is underrated as all hell, the kids line is honestly a complete unknown (Minten Khusy Hagens) and the fourth line battle will just be chaos and it’s gonna be so much fun to watch (Kuraly Kastelic Jeanot) but they have been really hot to end the year so they could be better than expected.
If the Bruins show up ready to go it’ll probably go 7, my bet is on Boston in 6 personally mostly due to goaltending strength and the overbearing physical style they can play
Canes winning the cup take it to the bank.
Yeah you are nuts, Pens vs flyers is going to be the best series in the first rd outside of maybe Bruins vs sabres
For the record: 👻ghost is gonna make Sanderson look like a beer- leaguer
PDO team?
Hailey walked away from Ottawa and never looked back 😤
