    I refuse to believe Jake debrusk is that important to the team when he is on the ice. This stat has to be flawed.

    Simple eye test will tell you that the Canucks get absolutely caved in when Pettersson is not on the ice.

    This was true even with Hughes here.

    Yes, Petey hasn’t played as well he has in the past.

    But he’s also anchored to some of the worst linemates you can imagine for a guy making 11.6m as you put it.

    And his whole team and system behind it bleeds chances, which they rely on him to bail them out.

    The fact that he has been deployed more in the dzone than the ozone tells you this. Somebody like Mcdavid would be at a 55-12-32 split … as with all players you pay 10m+ to score. You don’t deploy him to take defensive faceoffs on the regular. We are stupid though.

    I don’t mean this as sarcastic, but it really feels like someone made him think that his play in the defensive zone is more important than the offensive one.

    If you look at his career, his best offensive numbers were on the 649 line, when could occasionally play the wing and not worry about the defensive responsibilities

    He was matched up against the opposing top line with linemates that weren’t top line worthy.

    Look who else is on the that list? Tkachuk, Bedard and more. Would you discard them, too?

    This year Petey did everything good except score. He defends well and creates scoring opportunities. With better or even consistent linemates his production would be higher
