I remember seeing a few comments in game threads asking about how accurately we can compare today’s players to older generations like the Sedin era or WCE era, and some people were talking about how point-per-game nowadays would’ve been a lot less back in the 2000s.
Comparing across eras is never accurate, but hockey-reference’s era adjusted calculations is a fun way to try and make a comparison, and it’s interesting to see how players from different times look when their numbers are converted by the same formula.

This is really cool, I didn’t know hockey reference has this feature. Good digging!

Even with his current offensive struggles, Pettersson would get a lot more credit in this market if his strength and overall play on the boards was anywhere near as good as Henrik’s was at the same age. People forget how strong the Sedins had to be on their skates to play their « finesse » cycle game as effectively as they did.
It’s the combination of him going through an offensive drought and also looking like one of the physically weaker players on any given shift that makes him a lightning rod for criticism.

Sedins were late bloomers, Petey was red hot from the first game of his D+2 season. Crazy how Hanks ascension occurs at the same time as Pettersson’s fall. Just gotta think due to their starts their expectations were just massively different by now
Remember when Petey beat Bures rookie points record? Genuinely thought we had a Mcdavid-tier player here

The Sedins are really the epitome of work ethic and determination. Their linear progression is what every team wants. I miss them a lot.

This sub should change its name to r/ep40. The obsession with one player is nuts. Why would anyone compare him to a sedin? The sedins were beloved and successful and created a culture we could buy into and be proud of. Ep40 does none of that.
I feel like the current team is exactly what the Canucks fanbase deserves. To even compare Henrik to Pettersson is blasphemous if you ask me.

One big difference as well. The Sedins were known to be a Beast when it comes to their off season training. Pretty much Non stop pushing each other to the limits. Petey unfortunately needs to be called out for his lack of.
I think this is the tell tale sign of where their respective careers has diverged after a few years in the league.

Sedins improved every season until they reached the top of their profession. Hart, Art Ross & Presidents Trophies. Unfortunately they never sealed the deal with Stanley.

Sedins started slow and worked hard to become the best players in the league.
40 started hot and got lazy to become the worst contract in the history of the game

Sedins worked hard and set the tone off the ice, there is no comparison, their competitiveness drove this organization to the top of the league and made everyone better. Petey doesn’t do that let’s stop… They are both sweedish thats about it

Sedins got tortured for a few years. I remember a lot of brutal heckles (spelling?) at live games. I even remembered at times they’d get booed when they touched the puck.
They clearly worked hard and changed the narrative.
Petterssons done literally the opposite unfortunately. Hes already said hes not going to change his off season training other than a few minor tweaks….in the same press conference that Rutherford said he needs to prepare better.

The Sedins went through much more vitriol and terrible insults than Petty. So much more.
The difference is they put their head down and worked so damn hard to improve themselves and changed the narrative and rewrote the story. The rest is history.
The other guy doesn’t want to hear it or want their help.
