It is one of the absolute noticeable improvements, when the new cast of characters took over. The drafting has been on point. Bergevin did not leave the cupboard bare, but the Scouting staff and Draft decisions have been on point in recent years. We have had prime opportunities with our draft selections, but we appear to have more hits than misses , particularly with the high draft picks.
Imagine a draft where the Habs have the 1st overall pick and don’t use it on Lane Hutson, you used it on Slafkovsky. The Habs drafted both of those guys in the same year. Hutson and Slaf are guys that will be part of our elite core for years. That is how you turbo charge a rebuild. It is a large part why the Habs have overcome a few teams in similar positions, Detroit comes to mind.
It is mind blowing see the young talent develop and become what they are today and there is a lot to be excited about. Great times to be a Habs fan. They have built a team that appears set for long term success.

Jeff Gorton, Kent Hughes, MSL, our scouting team and player development team are our unsung heroes/MVPs. How many times do you hear fans complain about their coaches or management. Never in my life have I witnessed this.

Its a bit of a fallacy to say ‘were a good drafting team’ and include 4 guys drafted by a completely different team of people, to be fiar.

Martin Saint-Louis was never drafted.
Dominik Hasek and Tom Brady were selected 199th.
Dobes at 136 is an amazing selection.
I think the Habs tried to draft skilled guys that were skipped on because they were small.
Caufield and Hutson are both like that.
Other teams skip those players, they don’t think they could play in the nhl.
Caufield is the shortest player in the NHL at 5 foot 7.
Selecting guys like that is a smart idea, there is a good chance most will adapt to the nhl.

Not downplaying Fowler here but Montreal Canadiens probably has the best goalkeeping training ground. History has proven that this organization can develop exceptional goalies from any decent material
