Huh…an illegally scored overtime goal IS capable of being overturned! I thought such goals were allowed to stand after 1999.
I think a player controlling the puck still should not be able to be offsides themselves. Thats where a lot of confusion comes into play in the first place. Because now its "oh does he have control of it?" instead of "oh hes offsides for sure"
I was confused on this because I thought they were looking at the other player away from the puck. Only later did I realize that they were looking at whether the puck carrier was offside.
I don't have a dog in this fight but I thought the Stanley Cup playoffs started. Lotta weak sauce on that call.
Celebrating scoring in any sports with replays, is almost meaningless now..Taken all the fun out of sports all together really…Now it's like "…Yay sum1 scored a goal..probably offside, review pending…So we gotta wait…" 😐….
And why don't they have the Stanley cup playoffs on the ice
The offside challenge after a goal is ruining the game.
Scripted BS
Anyone confused why they still granted the penalty shot after saying it was originally offside. If all the plays and the goal after the offside doesn't matter.. then why should the penalty called for the penalty shot. Never have i seen that before
Let's assume the play was offside, I'm concerned about how they get a penalty shot. The point of a penalty shot is to replace a lost scoring opportunity. But in this case, since it was offsides, there was no scoring opportunity to be lost. Yes, I guess by rule this is how it is, but the rule makes no sense in this instance.
It would have been cool if he scored the penalty shot, because the penalty would have been called 3 seconds after the game winning goal.
Canes got lucky.
I don't like it that the key viewing (viz: "situation") rooms are in either NY or Toronto; there should be "situation rooms" ON SITE, where the game IS.
Wow thanks for showing who won the game…..
Leave it to espn to have the worst coverage for a hockey game
lol why would you post your league’s incompetency for the whole world to see
Stop the ability to Review offsides. It’s ruining the game.
Sports betting my dudes.
Sorry but that rule is so dumb. If it’s offside (staal obviously was) then if the clock is reset to that moment, the slash technically never happened right? The same way a goal doesn’t count after an offside, a penalty surely wouldn’t count either right?
obviously offside. What a stupid rule change. If it was offside the whistle would have blown and there should be no penalty shot. Just ridiculous calls.
In fairness, the 2 homers that call Hurricanes are a goddman joke. If I hear one of them say "netfront presence" again, I'm going to go Brian Mills on them. The play by play goof hasn't hit puberty yet since his voice cracks every Hurricanes goal, and fuckin Tripp Tracy is the epitome of using 738 words when 6 would do….and I'm a Hurricanes fan. We need John Forslund back.
I’m not even a fan of either team but the situation room is corrupt. We need a new league. It’s a business not a sport.
They split the baby.
There were not one, but two players offside on this play. Silly rule that the penalty should still count though if everything else after the offside is counted as if it never happened.
There has to be consequences for actions regardless of the time reset.
What if the defenseman slashed him McSorley style in the face? We don't count the penalty because it was offside? Or what if the defenseman saw that it was offside, expected a challenge, and treated the rest of the shift like the Purge?
How the hell was that off side???
All that to still lose 🤣
US team got a penalty shot because their playing a Canadian team in the playoffs.
The Panthers are gonna win the Stanley Cup this year wait I forgot that didn’t make the playoffs. Oh well.
never happened before in the history of Stanley Cup playoffs…indeed. When all is contrived that will happen.
As if t wasn't enough for VAR to ruin my favourite sport, it's now starting to ruin my second favourite.
Buccigross is annoying AF
How is there still a penalty shot if the play was offside before the penalty? Shouldn't that negate the penalty?
Offside….i saw it from here
You have to drag the leg/toe. They teach you at 10yrs old
Wtf…..we're making up rules?!
How dare you call offsides. PENALTY SHOT
for who? FOR ANYONE
ITS A CELEBRATION 🎉🎉🎉🎉
"They are looking at the clock, could that mean the goal is disallowed?" Why would they look at the clock if it was good? The game would be over.
Once they took the headset away from the linesmen, it was obvious it was disallowed. They were just figuring how to resume – clock, penalty, etc.
The Nhl homers believe the call was good but once you hear what Staal says after the game and watch the replay.. He was correct.
