Yeah, this is beyond stupid. He had a so-so game, but people online are such douches.
If you’re sending death threats you’re not a fan you’re just an asshole, just because he made a mistake and isn’t playing that well doesn’t give anyone the right to do that, I feel bad for him honestly
It’s alarming how many genuinely unhinged sports fans are out there. I’d be willing to bet that a lot of this is driven by gambling.

Last night my wife had went on the comments of a Lightning FB post while we were down 2-1 and 90% of the comments were from Habs fans trolling us… she was like why are they like this and I just said they have sad lives and the only thing that matters to them is a hockey team that hasn’t won a cup in over 30 years because of this they have the right to say and do whatever they want on the internet. I just don’t get it man. I have been a Bolts fan my whole life and never once thought about harrassing a player from any team, let alone my own. Not to mention their family. It’s just a game dude and they don’t understand that.
I still remember when Habs fans were sending death threats to Lightning players and their families in 2021.
I’m told the Lightning are horrible goons who don’t play the game right, and it was the refs fault? Why are they blaming him?

With such a big fan base comes lots of crazies. It’s just sad. I get that they’re passionate, I get that they love their team, but man. I hope I never become so « passionate » that I’m contacting players and their significant others and harassing them, or, god forbid, wishing their death.
Coming on Reddit and brigading another team’s subreddit is one thing, but actually harassing player’s families? Come the fuck on.
I don’t know any Habs fans in real life but on the internet they definitely come across as angry, pathetic, and void of any life outside of Canadiens hockey. Then again, that can be said for a lot of fans of a lot of teams from other sports as well on the internet
Habs fans are simply one of the worst fan bases in sports. They will say « everyone has bad apples » but the fact is the majority are bad apples.

Gambling addiction is a real thing society needs to learn to take seriously. Not saying it’s entirely the cause but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that « fans » have been acting with more hostility since it was legalized

I’ve had Habs fans wish me death and call me slurs on X solely because their team lost. These people are genuinely fucking unhinged.
As a habs fan, i don’t understand why people do this, now its Kirby but that always seems to happen to a player at some point. Its a fucking hockey game, no matter who win or lose the sun is still going to rise in the morning, this type of behaviour piss me off more than losing anything even game 7 of stanley cup. They’re human and sometimes can make mistakes…
Yesterday I was just disappointed for a tough loss, as close as hitting the post in the final minute of regulation. Today I’m just ashamed.

C’mon Canadiens, grow up. Van embaressed the country before. Oilers fans (my local team…) have embaressed us with death threats and other ridiculous social media crap, chasing Stu and countless other good players/goalies out of town. Now MTL is turning into an embaressment as well??
