Gotta remember that all the hockey gods weren't giving the Pens a chance in Sheol to get anywhere near the playoffs this year.
Does it take the sting out of going down 0 to 3 in round one? No. But it's a step in the right direction. The entire team should be proud of what they accomplished this year. 🐧🏒🖤💛🏒🐧
Hey!….I hear Mario is coming back and is in the best shape of his life!…….🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I'm not watching on Saturday. It's not bc I don't care or don't want them to win but I think maybe that will change their luck? Lol I know it's irrational but who knows can't hurt atp
The more I sit and think about the Rust extra 2, the more angry I get.. took all momentum away.. what should have happened: Konecny the initial 2 for elbowing.. 2 for Rust for his retaliation.. then I'm not sure how many people saw it, but Konecny tried to kick Letang several times.. that's an automatic match penalty and game.. that's a 5 min pp for Pitts. That's what should have been called. No game-tying goal. No momentum. Pens may score a goal or two. Pens win.
Who cares? Thanks for showing up though DK.
Is it just me, or was it the last 3 regular season games that gave me a bad feeling about this series? They've been out of sorts since.
Pens in 7
Bring up Boko! If I recall they did bring him up for one of the games against a flyers earlier this year. I mean not only is he a deterrent but he can play hockey also. I know that won't happen though.
They have no chance with #49 in the lineup. We need guys who can play defense in the playoffs. It’s time for #58 to realize he’s doing this team a disservice by being out there on that salary. Time to hang it up
Time for a pound of flesh. They are dead and buried. Boko and Elmer and just run them through the wall the entire time. Rough them up!
The penguins don’t have the best history when things look this bad. Usually when it’s a complete dud, nothing changes and they ride it out into the post season.
Spot on
They won’t replace Muse, but listening to the constant whining from the “leaders” of this teams makes it even more obvious they need a leader of men behind the bench.
So since they aren’t replacing Muse this offseason, Dubas needs to find a well respected league wide player this summer … someone like Gary Roberts or Bill Guerin like … to help bring leadership, discipline, accountability and respect to the Penguins.
Hey DK…..this team celebrated the return to the playoffs with three games left in the season. They took the foot off the gas, rested the players and coasted into the post season on a three game skid. Enter this series they were not mentally ready and physically had nothing left after 82 games of playoff hockey. I expect a sweep tonight, and I will tune in even though I am fuming with what I have seen. The fact they returned to the playoffs is amazing but the players seem ok with it. Watching Sid play right now is painful, my guess he's way more injured still then anyone knows. But malkin hasn't been good, Rust hasn't, neither has anyone else. The team MVP Karlsson hasn't excelled and really hasn't done much, and Letang has been hot garbage. When your leaders are among your worst players gives this team zero chances of winning. With all the extra time of no more hockey, Dubas has the time to figure out how to step away from certain players and establish a team that can win in the playoffs. He built a very soft team in Toronto and guess what, Pittsburgh only likes pillow fights. Everyone plays for the playoffs…..when they should be playing for a cup!
I feel super bad for Sid. We have all said let this man play for something, he deserves it. Well the Four Nations came and he was hurt but played meaningful hockey and won. Enter this season, it was all about the Olympics and before getting hit by Gudas he was having a huge impact for Team Canada, and if healthy I believe they win with him in the line up. He returns to Pittsburgh and has to watch the team go 500 down the stretch in a playoff push but returns. Unlike past seasons where he straps the team to his back and dominates, he wasn't able to do that this time, but his supporting cast get it done. Enter the playoffs, we finally have meaningful hockey in the Berg!!!! With his injuries, and the team's effort…..these playoffs are almost over, what was it all about? For Sid, this season has to be an epic letdown, and I feel our captain feels the defeat.
Blaming Novak and Girard is fine. They’ve been awful. No question. As has Letang. But Rust and Mantha have been equally as awful and should be equally being dragged right now. And Rakell and Crosby have been extremely inefficient while getting the most ice time. The whole team really should be dragged right now with the possible only exceptions being Malkin and Skinner. Not that they’ve been great, but they’ve at least been okay.
I'm just looking for what benefit Murashov gains by having breakaway after 2v0 breakaway and being heavily bombarded because of a terrible team in front of him.
DK – I know you don't like to prognosticate signings and trades, but if the Pens go on to lose with only one win or even no wins, how do you think this potentially affects Dubas' approach to the off-season? Does he lean in harder to youth? Does he stay the course?
Penguins hockey is just another show on TV to me now, like Netflix. I'm not getting emotionally involved anymore.
I;m gonna go all sour grapes here after watching parts of the other playoff games last night. None of the other games even approached the style of play that the Flyers have been putting on the Pens. They were like regular season games with a bit more physical play. Appropriate Penalties were called. In retrospect this series was predictable. The NHL/officials have had it out for the Pens all season for some reason, so why would we expect anything different in the playoffs? Also the entire league knows how to get under the skin of the Pens in the playoffs (especially Tocchet) if they are allowed to get away with it..Call this a conspiracy theory if you like, but the officiating against the Pens has been horrific all season going against the Pens. Does the NHL have it in for Dubas or something? Something is going on here..it's more than picking on the rookie coach. I;ll watch a little of the next Flyers series to see how their opponent deals with all the shenanigans and how the games are officiated and then I wont watch anymore because who wants to watch this type of hockey..
Hopefully the Pens win game 4. Getting eliminated at home would be apropos. They need to get booed right out of the arena.
Avery Hayes and Rutger McGroarty are built for this kind of hockey. Young, fast, physical, hungry. Need younger legs to win. Can have a few older guys next year but not too many. Average age 29 this year, need to get that down
There are really only two things they can do. The first is making a line of Crosby Malkin and Chinakov. The second is watching a whole bunch of “There is No Tomorrow” Rocky Edits on YouTube.
Put in Hayes for Novak, Hayes for Mantha, Solovoyov or Graves with Letang instead of Girard, and maybe swap someone for McGroarty for good measure. May as well give the young guys a taste of the playoffs before it's all over.
I’ll take all the hate but I don’t care, I hated the Olympic break. We haven’t been as good since and obviously Sid’s not the same.
Good analysis. Like anyone, I have a couple of opinions:
Put Chinakhov back with Malkin, and Rakell with Crosby. I don't know why they split those guys up, but the Russian connection was working. Chinakhov was getting goals, and Malkin was getting points setting him up. Replace Girard, either with Solovyov or St. Ivany, but I'm leaning towards St. Ivany because I've been impressed with his work ethic (especially before he got hurt, which was a result of his work ethic – willingness to block shots). I would like to also replace Letang, but I don't think that will happen. Perhaps his ice time needs to be cut. I know you weren't incredibly serious, but I would not call Murashov up. I would rather have him backstop the WBS Pens in their playoff run for development reasons. Besides, Skinner has really been the only Penguin who has shown up so far. Yeah, you could make the argument that he should have stopped some of the goals against (especially in game 3), but the guys in front of him repeatedly kill any momentum by making bonehead mistakes.
As far as zone entry with dump-ins, I agree. Force the Flyers defense to turn around and try to retrieve. Then they eventually back off when they're expecting dump-ins, which allows for more chances to carry the puck into the zone, which is more favorable to the Penguins. Also, the Penguins should implement a hard rim entry – puck carrier sends the puck hard around the boards, where F1 and F2 pressure the Dman that attempts to retrieve the puck, which creates turnovers in Pittsburgh's favor. They've used this tactic before in the regular season to great success.
Finally, I think your bumper music is too loud, it practically drowns your voice out.
Make the " sid and the kids " line again
Thank you DK. Is this the final game coming. If they win or lose, what matters is they are, our hockey team and that will never change at least for me. They made it this far and I'm proud of that. Great show DK as always.
Wasted Sid’s prime years on the Tristan Jerry experiment

All they can do is try and get a desperation win and send this back to pitt. Lay everything on the table. And stop mixing it up with the flyer goonery. It's like the core group forgot how to play hockey against the flyers. Ignore the goonery, control the puck. I'd like to see them retreating back to their zone more if there's no available pass. This would disrupt the trap the flyers are playing and spread their players out. Dumping and chasing is safe, but the refs are really allowing the flyers to hold up the penguins chasing players. Not sure what happened to that interference call that used to be automatic in the league for hold up a player trying to retrieve a dumped puck. The flyers sometimes check the chasing player two or three times as he tries to get around them and retrieve the puck. Has that rule changed?
Not that it was revelatory—I've been a Pens fan since the '80s—but it's remarkable how insufferable so many Flyers fans are. They're up 3-0. A sweep seems likely. Crosby's been neutralized by the Flyers for the first time in history. But I still see Flyers fans whining incessantly about every single thing Crosby does, all day, every day. It's bizarre and a little creepy.
