Even if Bowman Jackson get rid of knob, they will hire someone worse, Bowman Jackson are the problem. Fire them first.
After reflection here is what they gotta do. Channel their inner hatred for Florida and become them for the next few games. Every time a top 4 D man is there, gain the red line with speed and HAMMER those D into the ice every single shift for any line that does not have Davvo and drai on it. They have not gotta to the forecheck with speed barely at all and when they do they score goals.

Im not a Knoblauch defender but the previous Oilers coaches did the exact same thing. Why do you make it sound like hes the only one doing this? This is on the players and their poor approach to the game. Theyre scoring but not paying attention to defensive details . Theyre making it easier for Anaheim to execute their plays. Its like everytime the Oilers score, Anaheim always has a counter punch. Im still being optimistic but they need to wake up before its too late

Davo, Drai, Hyms, Henrique, Jones, Dickinson are injured. Nuge is doing nothing. Goaltending is the worst in the playoffs. The coach can’t overcome the Ducks speed and shelter the injured very well etc, etc. Were COOKED. See you next year.

Ice time allocations can be. McDavid and Bouchard cant handle a high pressure defense apparently.

When players are both physically and mentally fatigue, it is hard to keep up with the fight. Ducks are really pounding Oilers hard, Absolutely no mercy.
If they can activate Pickard, I'd play him tomorrow. If not, I'd start Jarry and make sure he knows he's on a very short leash.
Oilers have been middling all year. They are burnt out. The Ducks are younger and hungrier.

Austin, I was chatting with a buddy while watching last nights game. He had an interesting point to make. I wonder if McDavid himself is basically putting himself on the ice so much. Knoblauch doesn't come across as the guy to stand up to McDavid and say no, even though sometimes I think the coach should be.
Flames fan here; but i'd like to think that Knoblauch has been on shaky ground and it goes awhile back, and the cup runs have been patching it up. During this year in a down year, the true colors of him showed through with how players were taking shots at him left and right.

Its very upsetting until you realize knoblach basically put us in a position where all another team has to do is figure out how the core line plays. Once you crack that code you basically dont have to worry about anything else.

Just curious cuz at this rate, the oilers that were gonna “sweep the ducks” “it’s not the year for the ducks” “oil in 4, oil in 5” type of attitude. I feel like the ducks HAVE to win this series. They gotta prove everyone wrong that “hey, that other team that kept loosing, we’re built different now (literally) and we WILL WIN hockey games and playoff series” it’s been so long people probably started to forget the ducks. It's 2-1 Anaheim is playing their best Edmonton is playing very poorly and yet Anaheim is barely beating us. I'm very confident they win game 4 and if not then oh well I'll take the rest.

Talking about the 2024/25 Final, the NHL keeps using that clip of Matthew Tkachuk chasing down the puck into an empty net and swiping it away inches before it crosses the line… Now imagine Evan Bouchard doing that. You can’t. Neither can I. Knoblauch isn’t the real problem here. The problem is the big names, the big contracts, and a so-called top defenceman who disappears in his own zone and, at times, ends up looking like a sixth skater for the opposition. That’s the Oilers paradox.

I think it comes down to injuries and psychology. I think things would be a bit different in this series if this core wasn't so 'cup or bust' because they obviously don't care about winning this series if a deep run isn't going to happen. Like if it were my decision, I would let the young guys on the team take this series into their hands and let them learn playoff lessons and maybe become playoff stars for next year, but everyone on the Oilers knows that if drai/mcd/bouch don't get going they aren't making the final again. This team is built around deferring to the stars, they practice around the timing of the stars, and to me the stars are just cooked in terms of injury – but they just aren't built as players to accept their limitations. I personally think this roster will be beastly in the playoffs if they can enter with their centers healthy, other than maybe ekholm getting too old and bouch maybe needing a different kind of partner. I think Bouch would be doing a lot better if he had healthy forwards to pass to, when I watch especially the powerplay there is a kind of guilt in passing to a hobbled player to go through pain just to pass it back when those plays are otherwise routine as part of manipulating the pk

Hey man, Ducks fan here. I’ve got to give you a shout out becsuse this analysis was exactly what I was looking for the day after your initial breakdown of the game. I was wondering what the ice time was for the regular seasons/playoffs of the past were compared to this years. Really interesting stuff.
I don’t think the Ducks run away with the series. Obviously I would love that but I’ve got too much respect for the Oilers to think that’s possible. I do think we have a chance to win it, especially considering just how much high end hockey the Oilers have played these last few years. It catches up eventually, and perhaps that’s what we are seeing here. It probably would do them some good to get a few extra months of rest. I also think it’s probably time to move on from some of the aging guys like nuggent Hopkins/Hyman/Nurse/Bouchard. You’ve got to make room for McDavids new contract I would assume. So probably need a re-tool sooner than later. Just my thoughts. We will see what happens in game 4. Go Ducks!!

The Oilers have over-developed a perennial pattern of the untouchable, over-played, entitled "core" and the humble, replaceable parts, under-developed because under-used.
Here's my conspiracy theory as to why McDavid is playing so bad. If we get knocked out of the first round, we'll fire Knobber and Bowman and hire John Cooper from Tampa Bay as our HC and GM.
McDavid has praised Cooper after the Olympics and likes playing for him, Cooper wants to coach McDavid but won't jump unless he gets the GM position as well
Lol plenty of teams have had perfect strategies for neutralizing the ducks. The power play sucks if they are aggressively pressured, and the defense isnt very big and strong except trouba and struggle to prevent screens and tips. Plus almost all the goals the ducks score are off the rush, with Lacombe and carlsson carrying it in
Fatigue smatigue, the old oilers won 5 in 7 years, the islanders won 4 in a row, the panthers and lightning went to 3 finals in a row, suck it up Oilers!
Ducks fan here. You Oiler fans are so over-dramatic. In a few days, you'll probably be moving on to the next round, and Anaheim will be reserving tee times. That being said, I would LOVE to see Edmonton canned in the first round.
