  1. They didnt want to extend Nurse, They didnt want to extend Bouch, they didnt give time for Broberg or Holloway But they gave 8 years to Lucic and Fredric…….

  2. hindsight is always 20/20 when looking back not signing nurse to 6M’s at the time is a failure but what about not signing Holloway and Broberg thats even worse IMO

  3. Fact: The last two runs to the cup final for the Oilers were a fluke. They are what they are and have been for some time.

  4. To me , the management did really really a terrible terrible job. two years ago, we have the best PK team. Where are those people right now ?
"The Oilers finish the post-season at a net PK% of 98.6%, the highest in NHL playoff history. Their penalty killers in order of PK time: Cody Ceci, Darnell Nurse, Vincent Desharnais, Mattias Ekholm, Mattias Janmark, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Connor Brown, Derek Ryan." And where are our prospects now. The oilers does not want give young guns a chance, they want pay those low price. Before the two offer sheet , they want to pay Holloway, Broberg what ? 1.5M to 2 M. Cheap team does not make to win the cup.

  5. What's wrong with the Oilers? Everybody knows that the Oilers has an issue with goaltending even before McDavid was drafted. And about the defense, Nurse is a 5-6 defenseman. In short, the management did not offer proper support to McDavid and Draisailt.

  6. No team has ever won the Stanley Cup with four players taking up 48.5% of the cap.
The closest historical precedent is the 2023 Vegas Golden Knights, whose top four players (Eichel, Stone, Pietrangelo, and Martinez) accounted for roughly 38% of their cap space.

  7. It's funny how the tone of the sports media has changed the minute they got eliminated. Everyone was very optimistic and people kept calling me a doomer for predicting exactly this. Well, I'm afraid it's all downhill from here boys. There's nothing to look forward to next year or the next few years because we mortgaged the future to have a shot at winning now and the bag was fumbled.

  8. Only $16 million in cap space and not many good free agents available. Almost no prospects to either develop or to trade. 2 more years of Jarry's ridiculous contract. Ekholm is too old to play on a 1st pairing. Nurse is still Nurse. Frederic's contract is a joke. RNH is no longer a premier player. And McDavid and Draisaitl are showing their age with more frequent injuries. … Jackson and Bowman both need to be gone – and gone before the draft. And, if you keep Knoblauch, you invite the team to stay sleepy and unpassionate on the bench.

  9. When you hire a GM that was involved a cover up of the sexual assault case stemming from 2010 and banned by the NHL, Karma is a bitch !

  10. The Oilers need a veteran player like Malkin or Crosby that can still take over games. That was very evident this year that they still have the skill.

  11. The Oilers are a complete disaster. I fully agree with Tyler, Edmonton got as close as they're ever going to get to a championship, with Connor McDavid in their lineup, in that magical run in 2024. As Porky Pig says, "Ebbedeh, ebbedeh, th-th-th-that's all folks." Maybe Connor's injury is more severe than we know, but he did not impress overmuch in the first two games. The Ducks, with their motley crew of grizzled veterans and hot shot rookies and sophomores ran roughshod over the Oilers and, for the most part, kept the Oilers' stars in check throughout the six games. It's going to be an interesting off-season.

I have some extreme thoughts about what I'd like to see happen. I would start with the Oilers' scouting staff, fire them all. How can Anaheim find or trade for guys like Jackson Lacombe, Beckett Sennecke, and Cutter Gauthier while Edmonton's 4 first overall draft picks netted them McDavid, an obvious can't miss kid, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, at best a serviceable 2-3 centreman with some winger versatility. Taylor Hall clearly lost the Taylor versus Tyler sweepstakes and well, Yakupov clearly demonstrates why the Oilers should never, ever draft any Russian player. Edmonton does far better taking other teams' Russian castoffs, Podkolzin is likely to end up being the best Russian player to have ever played in Oilers colours, and he more or less fell into their lap. I think the Oilers' scouting has been awful for three decades now, and counting. Yes, they do get the occasional hit now and then but the misses far outnumber the hits, way more so than what should be considered the league norm or average. I know their draft picks haven't been that high recently but they're doing a poor job with the picks they do have. I'd also like to see the Oilers draft two or three goaltenders, in the middle rounds, in the next two years. Time to restock the farm and produce their own goaltenders instead of trying to rework other teams' castoffs.

And now for the big one, trade Connor McDavid and fill your mostly empty cupboard with first and second round draft picks and real prospects. Also, regarding draft picks, at least 3 years worth of first and second rounders. Right now, McDavid is quite cheap at $12 million per year for 2 years, so use this to your advantage. That was the price McDavid was willing to pay for what is, arguably, a somewhat mercenary contract since he seemingly didn't want to commit long-term like Draisaitl did. Oilers fans should know as well as anyone that loyalty doesn't really exist in the pro sports world, so, instead of Edmonton letting a star play out the string and then walk in free agency, how about Oilers management getting ahead of the curve this time and let your biggest asset go when you can receive maximum return on your investment. One other condition would have to be met in such a McDavid trade; the receiving team will also have to take Nurse and Frederic off the Oilers, however they have to arrange this for their own team. The Oilers will still have Draisaitl and Bouchard to build around and would then have cap space to get that stud goaltender, while developing their own goaltending prospects on the farm. Just some radical food for thought.

And yeah, fire Bowman and the coaching staff.

  12. They weren’t accepting their fate, they just didn’t have the people to make the difference

  13. Bad defensively (whole team). Spotty goaltending at best. Physicality is poor. Chemistry and confidence is poor. Team doesn't seem to have an identity. Organization doesn't have a strong culture. Pros? Explosive offense…..Sometimes, and we've seen what happens when that is taken away. What's left in the end? My friend is still going on about how good of a team they are. A couple decent win streaks and flashes of brilliance doesn't mean you're good lol. He's just in denial, he will come around. I think they need to admit that they've been in a retool for at least a year now (Arguably 2) and are now approaching rebuild territory

  14. Injuries injuries, it was bad play and no way of getting past Colorado with this team and gave up week play week coaching and it’s ok because of the coach

  15. We had the dream team in 2024, just needed a few minor tweaks…then the summer of hell happened thanks to Jeff Jackson

Boy do I hope he & a few others in upper management get shown the exit.

  16. What went wrong is the fact our so called captain didn't give a shit other than for his individual award

  17. Agree with most said however Jeff Jackson moves are also pretty hindsight 20/20 moves. Everyone was raving at time about how good of a free agency period he had and were even clamoring for him to be full time gm. He was able to retain majority of 2024 team (which most pundits thought most would walk) and even add Skinner/Arvidsson which at time was being lauded as major problem that their top 6 didn't have strong enough wingers to keep McDavid/Draisaitl apart.

Idk if not matching Holloway falls on Bowman or Jackson but that was a massive failure. Broberg clearly wanted out so put that one less on newer management and more on Holland and co.

  18. The lack of youth on the Oilers team is glaring what happens when your this far into your window and msised your chances will the team was still young.

  19. How many cups would the Gretzky Oilers have won with today's goaltending, or better, since McDavid came here? Remember, Andy Moog was the backup.

  20. Oilers are locked up for years to players they need to get rid of. Uff…Oil are totally fucked up. Only by this fact.

    This year nailed this.

  21. I would have let Nurse walk on his contract year. He is now a 6th D at best on good team, worth 1.5M. Oilers are toasted on his contract.
