@Rangers de New York

1. I believe the trade of Gartner for Anderson was as much about Mike Keenan not liking Gartner. He blasted Gartner that entire season.

  2. Just so you know, the reason the Rangers traded Mike Gartner (one of my favorite Rangers ever) was not because Mark Messier wanted Anderson. Messier was (and is) very good friends with Mike Gartner. They go WAY back to the Cincinnati Stingers of the WHA where they both played on the same line. The reason NY traded Mike Gartner was because Mike Keenan hated his guts. Why? Who knows, probably because Gartner was a really nice guy and Keenan saw him as "soft".

  3. Thank you for pointing out the Edmonton connection right away and I'm NOT HAPPY about trading Mike Gartner either 😒 #whyyyy?!

  4. Rangers-Devils Game 7….still the greatest hockey game I've ever seen…. 26 years later…..Super clichéd, but both teams left it all out on the ice in a mistake free game. If Slava Fetisov's cross ice pass in 2OT doesn't hit Tikkanen's leg and deflect into the corner for Matteau to sweep in the corner, who knows how long they would have played that night.

  5. They should have gotten Charlie Huddy on that team too, and he would have gotten Cup # 6, and sooner than later HHOF induction. Nothing yet.

  6. I know this video is 3 years old, but there was an interview recently with Neil Smith (Rangers GM at the time) talking about that '94 team. Apparently Mike Keenan was never a big fan of Gartner and was trying to get rid of him for awhile.

  7. This was one of the best days of my life ❤️🏒🗽🇺🇸🇨🇦🙏🏼 It was a miracle. Ill never forget Steve Albert The New York Rangers have won the Stanley Cup…. most people would never think this would happen in their lifetime🏒😭😀 Richter save on Bure was the first time i said they may actually win this . It was Mini Edmonton. 🏒❤️🇺🇸🗽🇨🇦 Felt bad for Gartner. Played so long and no cup. Omg that Matteau goal against Brodeur was insane time. Who knows now im almost 47 yrs old, who knows if this will ever happen again in my lifetime . It was incredible time for NY. I thought My Knicks were gonna win too. That was a heartbreaker we lost to Houston and Hakeem Olijiawon

  8. i really enjoyed the 1994 playoffs. seeing brian leetch get the p-off mvp was justice on ice, because till then there was a perceived canadian bias towards conn smythe winners by the people who voted for mvp's. seeing all those ex-oilers get another cup was pretty cool, too.

people can say brian leetch was a great american player, but he would have been just as great if he was canadian born.
    cheers from southern ontario 🍁

  9. Even though they made it hard on themselevs and shoud have breezed thru all 4 rds. And as obvious as it was they were getting as many Oilers as they could to win a Cup. 4 homegrown Rangers were the reason and the best players in the Finals for us to win. Leetch, Richter, Kovalev and Zubov

  10. Those trades at the deadline were essential and had to be done. Even though Anderson didnt have high numbers in the playoffs his presence brought a diffrent dynamic towards the other teams.

  11. "As soon as the puck dropped in Game 7, I knew New York was going to win it."

This is how I felt as well.

It's why the 1994 ECF series was ultimately the best series ever.

That was in doubt the whole time.

  12. so glad we didn't face det in the finals that year, we didn't match up well against them, you could argue they were the best team in the league that year aswell

  13. It was G6 Mark made the guarantee in.
PS: Geoff Courtnall, there's a name I haven't heard since my kid days when he played for my Caps. Decent player, decent goal scorer

  14. If you read the Rise and fall of a Stanley cup champion, New York Rangers book, you will find that for some reason Keenan had it in for Gartner and wanted him out of New York.

Maybe Messier had a hand in bringing in Anderson but I don’t remember that being mentioned in the book
