Dumb fans think he actually would say something different.

« oh my current coach? Oh he’s shit »

  2. alexsteen789

Whats he suppose to say at his hiring presser? You want him to throw ppl under the bus, on day 1?

  3. bdart1980

and the full quote went on to say something to the effect of – that he and mats would meet at the end of the week and discuss coaching staff.

  4. Clawson923

Extremely Luke Fox tweet from CJ striking a bunch of context to get rage clicks.

  5. commanderr01

The team quit on him regardless on how good of a coach he is, he’s lost the room! Time to move on especially when a A+ coach in Cassidy is sitting at home

  6. Defiant_Cup9835

Rogers doesn’t want to pay Berube to not coach. It’s that simple. Chayka has no authority. It’s all Pelley. We’re fucked.

  7. Look, I’m just saying….no matter what anyone thinks of the hiring…if you thought that he would say “we’re going to need a coaching change asap” in his first press conference, you may be a few fries short of a happy meal.

  8. NotThisTimeULA

Rogers loves the sound of that. They don’t have to fire him and pay out his contract! Bunch of cheap fucks.

  9. checkingmate

Yeah, what’s he supposed to say? “Nah he’s terrible pack your bags Craig”

Go enjoy the sunshine outside guys

  10. peanut-arms

I HAVE NO CONCERNS. – keith pelley. never forget his contributions to this press conference. I HAVE NO CONCERNS. I STILL HAVE NO CONCERNS. This is the new mantra moving forward apparently lol

  11. Pristine_Office_2773

I’ve been called tremendous right before a performance review when it’s obvious they want me to quit

  12. Oh fuck off.

Here’s something that I don’t understand and maybe someone can help me get a better understanding of this.

About ten days ago it became pretty obvious that Chayka was who the Leafs were going to hire. It was an open secret. During that time period there were what, 40-50 articles, podcasts, interviews, etc. and every single one of them said the same basic thing- Chayka is a scumbag who can’t be trusted and has a shitty reputation, right?

So, after hearing this, why didn’t Pelley see all this and view it as disqualifying? There was no contract signed. No press conference called. Or did Pelley not give a fuck about the fans (aka the people who pay his salary and fund MLSE)?

What CJ doesn’t tell u is that John and mats will have a meeting with Craig later this week to discuss his future with the team. Of course he’s gonna leave that context out so people start freaking out.

  14. ZealousidealTeam7130

he’s not going to say otherwise at a press conference. He has some class, unlike Steve fucking Simmons.

  15. RespectAcrobatic1563

He can call him a “tremendous coach” and then next sentence say, but he’s just not be our coach. Let’s hope that’s where he’s going with it lol

  16. Maladaptive_Ace

This means nothing. If anything, it means he’s not coming back, because he didn’t say « we are sticking with him, we believe him. » It’s what you say when you don’t want to be rude about someone. « Well…. look… he’s a lovely guy!! »

  17. They met once briefly. His future isn’t decided. Hope that helps this absolute classic leafs media tweet that picked one piece from a much longer answer

Whatever he thinks aside, what else is he going to say when he’s asked about Berube? « Naw this man is trash and I’m kickin him to the curb tomorrow. » He’s just being professional. Berube may be on the lower end of NHL coaches but he’s still an NHL coach.

Most of the sound bites from this press conference, both flattering and unflattering, are completely useless and uninsightful.

  20. Emergency_Wolf_5764

It’s now looking like Berube will be back behind the bench next season and possibly replaced by Sundin as interim head coach if the Leafs get off to a slow start.

    Watch for it.

    Next.

  21. That either means he’ll get fired at the first rough patch out of camp or will still be there in 2027. There’s no in-between

  22. Dracid88

The year is automatically a write off if Berube comes back.

  23. exampleofausername

I know this isn’t the full quote. However, I’m still scared we’re gonna waste half of next season running it back with Berube so John can assess, and then fire him after it’s too late.

  24. Worldly-University13

Well what else is he going to say. No shit he’s gonna say this whether they fire him ornot

  25. Substantial_Ad_7027

“Do you want the job, John? Then read from this script…..”
