GO HABS GO!!
So the window isnt closed for 2 years yet says the window is closed
Next year is the make or break year, IMO. They'll be more rested, they're at least hoping to have both Draisaitl and McDavid at 100% health-wise, and then they can see what management can pull off with their limited trade pieces. If the extra rest doesn't get them back into a deep playoff run next season, then barring some blockbuster free agent signing at the end of next year, I don't see how they get better before rebuilding to restock the cupboards.
What an absolutely stupid take. 17 million in cap space but window has closed. This is why there guys are taking to thin air instead of being employed by a team or a network even.
The Oilers do not have 8 million tied up in goalies. Only Jarry is under contract for next season. Both Ingram and Pickard are UFA's this summer.
Horrific Gming since Holland left, bad coach, and few draft picks left. It would take a great Gm 2-5 years to turn it around, and the Oilers don't have one. The window is now fully closed. And most of the fans cheered running out Koskinen, getting Campbell, getting lucic, getting Skinner, (both), drafting Vakopov and Puli, and they can never admit their own stupidity. As they demanded people like me, who didn't agree with them, be kicked out, muted and shadow banned because they hate anyone being right. Well now those idiots are going to eat years and years of a mediocre hockey team, that they helped destroy.
Window never closes when u have mcdrai on ur team.. this is why u guys are doing podcast and not working in the nhl
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are elite talents, but they are not complete players and they haven’t shown a real commitment to becoming that. Too much of their game is driven by stats and recognition, while the details that define winning hockey defense, consistency, and leadership aren’t there when it matters most. Connor McDavid, in particular, still plays a one-directional game at key moments instead of a true 200-foot style.
The leadership issue is hard to ignore. They dominate the power play, but that comes at the cost of developing others and building a true team identity. Real leaders elevate the entire group. That’s the standard set by players like Sidney Crosby a complete, accountable, team-first approach that translates into championships.
McDavid’s legacy is trending toward great individual stats and awards, but serious questions about being clutch. In the biggest moments, the production hasn’t been there—zero points in critical games like Game 6 and 7 in 2024, and again in Games 5 and 6 in 2025, along with no impact in a gold medal game. He performs when there’s less pressure down 0–3, Games 4 and 5, or in round-robin Olympic play but as the stakes rise, the impact drops off. That pattern raises real concerns. Where is the accountability for that?
And yet, no one in the media seems willing to ask the obvious question: what parts of your own game are you committed to improving? We hear about scoring goals or chasing milestones, but not about becoming complete 200-foot players or stronger leaders. Instead, it’s excuses and soft coverage.
The “best player in the world” label doesn’t hold up under that kind of scrutiny. Being the best isn’t just about highlights and numbers—it’s about delivering in the biggest moments and leading a team to wins when it counts.
As for Leon Draisaitl, he shares in this. The talent is undeniable, but until it translates into complete, accountable, team-driven success, it’s fair to question both the leadership and the results.
Cue the fan boys
Oilers are done for Paul Bissonette said this on spitting chicklets podcast after the Stanley Cup Finals last summer
Stick a fork in it guys – it's done
Sorry, no matter how good they are 2 forwards cant steal you a cup. In the past they had some depth, thats been depleted. An AHL goalie matched with a D core that doesn't know how to defend is a bad combo, and one of those D is essentially a forward. Sure they have cap space, great except the free agent pool this year is empty. What do the Oilers have to trade? Nothing except those 2 forwards they want to keep. Looking bleak, McDavid going to want out well before that 2 year deal is up.
No mention of the coaching?
oilers should move to Houston
Clickbait…. Lol
Zero penalties called against the Ducks in game 6…..are you fu**ing kidding me???? If you aren't willing to call out the US bias in the reffing then STFU.
The window for the Oilers to win a Stanley Cup may not be closed just yet although it feels like that window is closing quickly.
I think the window stays open as long as they have those 2 monsters. But i have 0 trust in Oilers management to provide the support they need to win the title. In that sense it might very well be over.
Bowman the Oilers gm is a complete idiot not only will McDavid be gone #29 will be gone too bc Bowman is a moron & has turned the Oilers into the Maple Laughs L😂L.
Treloosing & Bozo Bowman two of the absolute worst GM in the NHL.
coilers are done. let a lot of their good depth go and didn't want to re sign them. brought in crappier players to replace them. stan bowman masterclass, better screw job than kyle beach
Respectfully disagree that window is closed, and they aren’t my team, but Commie is right that the clock is ticking. Funny watching how Jeff Jackson somehow got in as an ownership darling and pushed out Holland only to be responsible for this mess. There’s something weird about that front office that needs to be addressed or next year will be a repeat. At least Murphy was a silver lining and he brought Nurse’s game up significantly. Might want to get Jon Cooper to Edmonton b4 McDavid’s playing for him in Tampa…..
Window closed? lol what about Dallas Stars? They were supposed to win the Cup this year way more than the Oilers. Look at where they finished. Lost to Minnesota!
The Oilers goaltending is garbage. Dallas Stars goalie Jake Oettinger is supposed to be way better than almost any goalie in the NHL. And they lost. Proves it's a lot more than goaltending that is required to win it all. It's total balance, and with the way the Avalanche dumped the Wild 9-6 in game one, I would say it is total balance.
careful Commie you get too close to Barnaby you might get an elbow to the head. Barnaby is right Window is closed. Be smart Edmonton sell Mcdavid for top dollar trades and start the rebuild.
It might be closed, it might not be.
The health mattered.
That said…bad health can come from a casual regular season where you have to overplay the big guns in the last 30 games.
If they don't shape up in the regular season and get their game in order sooner, they are done.
Centers #1 – #4 all injured did matter.
Bouchard gets exposed every year for his terrible D in the playoffs and not many like to mention it. Florida trashed him the last two years and Anaheim this year.
If the oilers were smart they would fire the entire front office , and retool . Trade McDavid before he walks. Bouchard is a pylon, and no goalie
NURSE. the. CURSE !!!!!!!!!!!! who wants him ?
Talk about copium these oilers fanboys are about! Ducks winning a cup? 😂😂
The Oilers had the cheapest and one of the best goaltending duos in the league, Skinner and Pickard. And thanks to Bowman, they’ve now broken Jarry and worn out Ingram.
Wouldn’t Holloway and Broberg look great, lolololololol
Well I’m not Connor McDavid so I will make excuses. The window is not closed, McD, Hyman and Drai were all injured. McD looked like a shadow of himself against the ducks. They’ve played as much hockey as anyone in the last two years and the coaches voice was wearing a bit thin in the locker room no doubt. Rest, healing, a new desire, and probably a new voice from the coaching staff. I’m not saying we got this thing.. but window is still open.
You say oilers fans don’t know they a need a good goalie? Of coarse we know that we’re not stupid. The window is closed, I sure hope both of you were just fucking around, if not you just made yourselves look like morons. Why 8M in goaltenders? Ingram does not have a contract and suspect they will try and move him in an effort to get a number one. Even though they had a chance with Gibson but they wouldn’t give him starting job. They could’ve gotten biddington. They also could’ve had Wallsted as well but nope. I bet numb nuts is wishing he would have done something with Gibson, Wallsted, and Biddington, all of whom wanted to come to Edmonton
McDavid should just get traded this coming season
Time to rebuild, another 5 to 7 years before we become competitive again. The manager in charge of trades.. terrible….instant FIRE
I agree oiler management fucked upnthe team with no defence or goaltending
I think Bouchard gives up the puck on purpose he’s the Pete rose of hockey
Exactly right
Totally agree.
Too many bad NMC contracts that run beyond 97s contract.
Toronto had Core 4 and who would have thought them missing the playoffs as soon as Marner was gone.
Edmonton management will screw this up and I feel, other 31 Teams are well aware of the 97s situation. You dont think they want in on the UFA lottery in 2 years.
So Oilers are done.
McDavid hasn't proven himself to be like Crosby on defense or in leadership. If the team is a little nonchalant, I think it comes from the young McDavid, and the lack of a coach who spots it and has the guts to correct it. Who would you rather have at the age of 35, Crosby or McDavid? Would Canada have won gold if led by Crosby?
I said it when Connor signed his $12M deal and I'll say it again, Connor signed for that little so his contract can be moved more easily.
A $12M contract is way easier to move than an $18M contract.
This was strategic, not team friendly.
Oilers are nothing without McDavid and Draisaitl. If one is even hurt but still playing they have no chance. McDavid best to leave the team and go elsewhere.
