to me, i like this more than when tre was hired. i hated the tre thing right off the bat. i was willing to let him cook, but i didnt have a good feeling. that ended up being right, unfortunately.
with this, i am much much much more open. i hate pelley, but i dont get that deep hate this gets. this is how i felt when the jays got their current management. i didnt like they gave AA hell for trading away prospects, i felt that was very lame, but i was down to see them work, and theyve ended up creating a, well, amazing culture.
maybe this goes to shit. maybe this goes surprisingly well.

As long as Keith Smelly isn’t involved in hockey ops, I have an open mind. That guy is just a sack of disappointment.
& Chayka was far from my first choice (bad draft history and mediocre trade history), but I’m giving him a chance.
The fact that basically the entire hockey world is against him, maybe he’ll have a chip on his shoulder and shock everyone.
— not exactly off too a good start though if rumours of Berube keeping his job are true. He’s part of the problem and has to go

Let them do what they gotta do. Then we judge *if they mess up*. Simple.

Fandom is about reactions. « Fan » originates from « Fanatics » which is really what fans are… its entertainment, and boy do the Leafs entertain, just in a bad way.
Key-Word1335
Exactly this.

Im willing to give them a fair shake but its not encouraging signs. Sundin has zero experience and Chayka was running Wendy’s joints before this.

Everyone needs to channel their inner pensive well-dressed black man and lean back with their fingers tented while the situation unfolds.

No thanks. Wake me up at the next rebuild.

I am baffled by the segment of Leafs Nation that has taken the position that we need to wait and see.
Really?
We just hired a guy who was a fucking disaster in Arizona, and was so shit no NHL franchise wanted to hire him for five years.
But to make the spoonful of shit go down easier, they have hired a guy who has almost zero managerial experience, and has purposely stayed away from the NHL for close to two decades.
Why do I need to suffer through 3-4 years before declaring this to be shit?
The writing’s already on the wall, and it is written in shit.

This is what people said about Treliving and Berube. Sometimes people know stuff

Let’s see how things go and then we complain.

There’s no correct opinion to have on this.
Many of the concerns expressed are fair, as are many of the mitigations.
I’m not going to fault anyone for being skeptical, even if I don’t have a full commitment of doomerism in me

Nah, Chayka needs a reaction

No. Hiring a guy who lost 4 first and second round picks through negligence, then gets suspended from the league for neglecting his GM obligations should never have been hired to be the top dog of the team.

I’m beyond caring about the front office, just give me results. Some of the « best » front offices in the league have as many cups as the Leafs do over the last decade.
Go on a fluke run, win it all then miss the playoffs for the rest of eternity for all I care.

LMFAO This fan base is insufferable.
People already giving up on the GM before he even starts because as the youngest GM in NHL history, he wasn’t able to turn a team with zero budget around. Owners moved the team to a college arena to save a buck, but let’s all blame Chayka for not turning a team with zero budget around in 3 years.
And shitting on Sundin for lack of experience. There’s a plethora of ex-NHLers doing what Sundin was hired to do with just as much experience. Some do well, some don’t. Sundin learned from Pat Quinn and was the Captain of the Leafs the last time the team played with any heart.
Benefits of the Doubts deserve to be given… but this is Leafs nation. Let’s go cry about it instead!

Regardless of how it all plays out, the motivations and reasonings behind the hiring were par for the course for Rogers/MLSE in all the worst ways.
