Jake Oettinger à propos de la saison écoulée :

J’espère vraiment que ce ne sont pas que des paroles en l’air. Nous savons à quel point il peut être génial

He still had a great record for 50+ starts

  2. LegendOfEffect

If he commented this here on reddit he would be down voted

Jake came into the store to buy some merch after getting done with the exit interviews and complimented my music choice 🥲

The thing is, we’ve seen Jake can be -elite-. We’ve also seen him shit the bed.

Hopefully he can figure out how to consistently play at that higher level. Like if he could release his power to become even awesomer, that would be…. phenomenal.

I’m so glad we have big Ben Bishop on our coaching retainer. He’s gotta be a good voice of reason for these younger guys. Lehtonen is still in the area too maybe? Would love to see the former goalies rally around our guys.

Hope Oetter gets some well deserved rest and time with his kiddo then we can tackle it again next season.

  6. Get after it Otter, the fan base has your back. Time to start working towards your goals.

Ups and downs, I’ll always have a soft spot for Otter.

I think goaltenders now are the running backs of the NHL. Unless you get an undeniable generational talent, see Bob in Florida, then you don’t waste money on an above average one, because they are a dime a dozen. I mean we saw Stuart Skinner beat Jake twice, and I believe Aiden Hill who was a backup. We even saw it here, in the pandemic year, with Anton Khudobin making it to the Finals. And he was definitely on the downside of his career. I think you flip Jake for an elite player or two, I think he has that value in the league. See if you can get faster and see if you can outscore teams (see last night). And then pick up a Wedgewood like player to play goalie.

Dude became a dad. When I became a dad I barely could tell you the time, what day it was. The exhaustion, the feelings, and I wasn’t a starting goalie for one of the top teams in the NHL.

We know what levels he can get to, but maybe cut him some slack after the last three years of making it to the WCF and becoming a dad.

I love otter and generally despise anyone who posts negative shit about him being the worst and or whatever.

That said, if I could make one wish it would be that he’d tap into his inner-Belfour more.

I know otter’s calm, unflappable nature is very much a net positive, but just once in a while I want to see some extreme steely-eyed intensity come out.

But like I said, love otter and I hope he’s here for many, many years to come.

I think this is exactly what needed to happen. Vegas made back to back trips to the WCF, then missed the playoffs. The next year they won the cup.

While our paths aren’t exactly the same, maybe this “bad” year is the motivation that we need. Once Jake works through his emotions, it sounds like he has the recipe for a very focused year.

Plus, we should regress back to the mean in terms of MGL. Another reason to be optimistic. Maybe they flat out needed a reset and some rest.

  12. Catullus13

That’s a fair assessment. These are good goals to have.

  13. OtterOtter29

He did great in the playoffs save for game 1, his team let him down big time

  14. harralexa1993

I think Jake will eventually have a playoff run where he is unquestionably our best player. He did that in 2022 but hasn’t since then. He’s had good individual series but hasn’t been able to sustain it to the next one. Eventually he’ll have a year where he’s on fire for 20 games. I tend to be hard on him but that doesn’t mean I don’t believe in him.

  15. No more newborns please. It’s probably not the main reason, but sleep exhaustion is hard on any new parent, even one with resources.

  16. PotentialOwl8063

Hope he finds that success he absolutely has the potential and I have been a huge otter fan since the calgary series and hes a minny boy.
Would love him in a wild sweater.
He is 27 and just about to hit his prime age for a goalie.
Yall have an all time goalie if he hits his potential
    Hope he finds it

I don’t think it’s lip service. Lip service would be him saying the usual PR statements about how things didn’t work out, but there were some positive takeaways and we have to get ready for next year and yada yada yada. After all, there were some good things – high WR, 2nd most shutouts of his career, at least made the Olympic team and was the main backup. Pros don’t just sit there and tell you they suck to appease the fans. They only do that when they are truly personally frustrated about something. This dude just basically told us none of that mattered and there was nothing to celebrate this season. That, to me, signals that he’s looking beyond and not just content with where he’s at.

I grew up fucking hating Turco as a kid. I could tell he was a good goalie, but I couldn’t stand how he’d always let in the soft goals at the wrong time and it seemed like we always fell short because of it. As I got older I would often repeat that Turco was my least favorite Stars goalie and that he was far from one of the best we ever had because of that fan trauma. I got a little older and matured, and looking back I can now appreciate him for what he actually was. Dude really was the 2nd best goalie we ever had behind only Eddie cuz of his Cup win.

Jake, imo, is basically in Turco status atm. Dude’s obviously a really good goalie when he’s on, and he’s gonna smash franchise records by the time he’s done. He just has some trouble being on consistently enough to achieve greatness. It doesn’t help that his team keeps underperforming in front of him and not giving him help, but still. He is certainly capable of taking that next step, but to do so requires the right mindset and drive, and I think these comments hint that he’s on the right track mentally. Time will tell if he can execute that leap.

Don’t take 8mil+ and fail. 8mil + you are expected to single handedly steal games. That’s vezina trophy pay, cup winning pay. Bad contract, if you dont want the heat dont take the big money.

If he locked in at 5mil like he has been playing no one would say anything. Just facts. He is way to inconsistent and time hasn’t fixed that.

  19. Chance-Nerve9882

He’ll never say it, but let’s be realistic, he didn’t have a great defense in front of him this season. Yes him and DeSmith had some forgetful moments, but goalies did outstanding this season considering.

  20. lazymonk68

He better be careful if he doesn’t want to get downvoted

  21. Psychological-Bus493

otter was fantastic vs the wild. he was not the issue

  22. Lopsided_Peach_2095

I mean just watch 5 minutes of Tampa-Habs or Avs-Wild series and you’ll see that we’d be completely outclassed. That’s not on Oetter.

  23. Good, paying for a top 5 goalie to get mid results isn’t acceptable. He’s capable of being great but unless something changes..we have to accept that Calgary series was an outlier

  24. lonestar77

Good, I wasn’t satisfied with his overall performance either (not that it matters, but it feels good to type it out anyway). He showed flashes of the stud goalie, but ultimately could not steal enough games in the playoffs (Game 2 was outstanding, we need more of that Jake).

  25. MRAGGGAN

Agreeing with everyone on him having new dad exhaustion, which jerked him around.

Also agree about the team in front of him (and DeSmith) leaving him out to dry more times than I was happy with.

    But honestly?

I think the Olympics fucked with his head. He deserved to play. He absolutely deserved ice time, and as much as I also love Swayman, Otter would’ve thrived in the Olympic net. He came back from the Olympics and seemed a little lost.

    Fuck Bill Guerin.

  26. RamAir17

Bishops advice… Tell Jim to get a better D

  27. i wish the most disappointing year of my life gave me a gold medal

  28. Sher1ockpwns

Poor guy got robbed at the Olympics. There’s no reason he shouldn’t have started a game. Bill Guerin is a tool
