Leafs should trade Matthews, as they could get a great trade return from him that could be more beneficial to the teams future.
Trade matthews for 1st in top 10 this year and 2 prospects. Nylander 1st and prospect, Carlo trade for 2nd rd, Rielly trade for nothing and pick or two. Stolarz trade for nothing. Rebuild mckenna Kneis Cowan 2 new first rd defence and two prospects top 9.

If you would’ve told me the Leafs would win the draft lottery at the beginning of the season, I would’ve thought you were high out of your mind. The Leafs should never have had the chance to win the lottery, with the team they have. This is a playoff calibre team, getting 1st overall and having the opportunity to scoop up Gavin McKenna, a guy that could easily be a franchise player…. Wow, just wow. I have no words, this changes everything.

It's good PR, given what's happened over the last week. I'm not convinced either of the top two are generational players. That said, if I'm the Leafs GM, I try to move this pick for more firsts to plug known holes in this lineup.
