  1. With the Sharks jumping up to 2ND OVERALL… they now have the chance to seal their rebuild! But the decision is harder than it seems 🤔

Let me know, what would YOU do if you were San Jose? Would you draft Stenberg, Reid, or some other player? And what would YOU trade the pick for if you had the chance? #GravGang

  2. Smits is the only D I could see them considering BPA at 2OA and I think that’s still a stretch. I think it has to be Stenburg and sort out the defense with the Edmonton pick (whether drafting or trading), trading now expendable prospects, and free agency.

Edit: having Stenburg join Celebrini and Smith on the first line and reuniting Misa with Chernyshov would be incredible.

  3. Thanks for the breakdown! I was all in on defense but you made some great points. There’s still a huge gap between Mack and will points wise and he does need more help and a stable top line.

  4. Stenberg is a no brainer. McKenna and him are basically the 1A and 1B prospects of this draft, if they need defense that badly, moving down is their best option. They won't have any shortage of teams wanting to move up.

  5. My Sharks get a call from Chicago and are offered 4th overall, a 2nd rounder, Levshunov and Korchinski for the 2nd overall. Putting it in the atmosphere.

  6. I think the best picks are

    1. Toronto – Mckenna
    2. San Jose – Reid
    3. Vancouver – Stenberg

That's what I believe the best picks are for each franchise without making any trades. IF Toronto can trade down and get a Reid or Verhoeff they should do that.

If San Jose doesn't draft a top d man they aren't gonna win a cup. And the team is too good to give them more opportunities to draft this high.

  7. The Sharks could possibly be the California version of the Leafs or Oilers if they don't shore up their defence. Score a lot of goals but can't defend.

  8. I’d much rather be Stenberg right now than McKenna. McKenna is going to be expected to come in and solve all of the Leafs’ problems and will get raked over the coals by the most toxic fanbase in hockey when he can’t.

  9. You never ever draft positional needs, when you have a WJC Gold winner, played against the men in the top SHL division, and his maturity? You don’t get that every day, sure he isn’t the positional needs but his other skills are something you don’t ignore.

  10. You articulated this perfectly. As a huge Sharks fan, by drafting Stenberg we will have a first line that teams will be petrified of. You’ll have so many chips to trade to upgrade the blueline, and there are guys who are available for the right price. Hronek, Adam Fox, Roman Josi, Braden Schneider, Simon Nemec, Owen Power, Darnell Nutse (assuming EDM picks up a portion of his contract) and Doigie Hamilton are all possibilities as well as the team making a splash and going all in on Darren Raddysh.

Lots of great options for San Jose.

  11. Based on all his prior history, Grier will go BPA and pick Stenberg. As far as defense goes, they have enough high end forward prospects, other draft picks, cap space to get things done.

So i could see the sharks walking out with a forward (Stenberg) and having traded for an established D-man before day 1 of the draft is over.

Edmonton's 1st pick plus either a guy like ecklund (who'll be replaced by Stenberg) or musty/"fill in the blank" prospect.

  12. Grier didn't look very excited at the draft. I'm betting he might trade down for a package that will net them a useful player now

  13. Sharks should (will) not galaxy brain this situation. Stenberg is the pick, he will be BPA. Unless some crazy trade comes along (like the kind that gets the other GM fired) they should do what they did last year and draft BPA. The defense is still a hole and will have to be addressed but drafting for need never works. Draft BPA and figure out the rest later.

  14. First of all for anyone saying Mack is the only elite player on the Sharks offensive core are out of their minds. Not everyone is a Mack, Sid, Ovi and McDavid. Shoot I forgot Ovi wasn’t a teenager anymore cause the lockout and McDavid wasn’t a teen anymore either, but Ovi still did it his rookie season and McDavid his sophomore season. So with that said Smith, Misa and Eklund will all be okay. Smith will be over a PPG next season and I wouldn’t be surprised if he scores 90-100+ points. Misa, not sure when but he will be another 90-100+ point player in time. Eklund might take a little longer just cause he needs to work on his shot and also take more shots lol. Igor is also going to be PPG as well. With Stenberg we will have 3 lines of scoring being shoved down every teams throats. Hope they like the taste. It will just be a masterclass. GM MG needs to call up Detroit and try to trade for ASP. After the way they treated him this season he might want out and they have a lot jam at RD. Then trade up from 19. Florida seems like a good trading partner because of their fluke season. Anyone Florida drafts now at 9 wouldn’t fit their immediate timeline or their timeline once they rebuild. So they might be open to a trade.

  15. I’ve heard some stuff in the offices. Don’t be suprised if you see a trade back with us taking a teams best D and swapping thing 20th and a prospect while drafting Reid

  16. Great breakdown… A lot of the same thoughts I have. Particularly targeting the acquisition of someone like ASP, Nemec, etc… I'd add Schnieder and maybe Mrtka to that wish list. More likely I think is finding a bridge player or two (maybe re-approach Hamilton…? Look to sign Carlsson?). Like you said, I don't think improving the defense is impossible by any means and not something that HAS to be done via the draft.

  17. Think of it this way. If the sharks pass on Stenberg, there’s no chance he falls further than 3. If they pass on Reid, he could easily fall to 5 or 6 or beyond. BPA

  18. I wanna say I think it would be a mistake for SJ to pass up Stenberg but I can really see them going for position of need instead of BPA strictly cuz how hard it is to fill that RHD1 role and the fact they are pretty stacked in their top 6 and still have Musty coming up🤷‍♂ I think if they fall in love with Reid, he could be the pick.

  19. They are 100% taking Stenberg and that is the right decision. Who needs defense when you have the ability to score 7 goals a game lol stack it up

  20. Lol big Mike has been all in on building an offensive roster since the beginning of the rebuild, all of a sudden he’s gonna pass on a generational Swedish offensive talent for a defenseman project? Cmon now

  21. "If you worry about what the fans think you'll be sitting next to them in the stands." Love that quote. I hope the Sharks don't get a numer one D. The bandwagon Celebrini ball-washers don't deserve it.
