I wouldnt be at all surprised to learn the the #1 pick goes to the highest bidder each year. The money going straight into bettmans pocket, of course. We've seen in the NBA with all the sports betting scandals they are 100% rigging games, and Dallas' "luck" getting the #1 pick after that incredibly suspicious Luca trade…. These governing bodies are up to dodgy shenanigans behind the scenes and anyone who doesnt see these patterns emerging is braindead.
Simple solution, a team can't have #1 pick more than once in 10 period, can't have a top 5 pick more than three times in a 10 year period.
Calgary gambled and lost. Minnesota is proof that Calgary didn't need to tank by unloading Anderson, Kadri, Weegar, Zadorov, Tofoli, Lindholm, and arguably Markstrom. There was a decent core right there.

The Habs have the most number 1 picks with 6. Leafs have been around just as long and have picked first 3 times. The islanders are second with 5. I don’t know. At this point with this lottery it’s probably not fair but random and lucky.
As a flames fan, I’m more interested it our 2nd 1st round pick and early 2nd round picks could be, we have a really good chance to grab both ruck boys and potentially a decent depth centre. It more important this pick work out for us to move the rebuild along.
Other teams will do what they want we need to focus on the flames culture & getting the new core to click well
