I can see this call swinging either way but it causing an injury makes me lean the 5 myself. I don’t disagree with the call, hope Poehling is ok

  2. Good call, nowhere near the puck and defenseless.

  3. It’s an unfortunate outcome, but the hit didn’t warrant being tossed IMO.

  4. Brodieboyy

I honestly don’t understand how you review this and still call it a major penalty

  5. Psychological-Bus493

He should’ve just *attempted* to butt end him

  6. claire303

Such a dumbass hit. The puck was 10’ away with a goddamn eternity for McNabb to avoid the hit. The whiplash against the boards happened because he was in no way expecting to get his shit rocked outside of the play. How the VGK fans in their sub crying over this don’t understand HoW iS ThAt a MajOr is absolutely moronic. Hits like that end careers.

  7. Shrimkins

I love how interference wasn’t even called during the play, then the refs go to the replay and decide it’s a major? Absolutely ridiculous. The hit wasn’t even bad, no elbow, no head, led with the shoulder. These refs are laughable

Brayden Mcnabb with a dirty hit, I’m just shocked

This guy has been doing this shit since he was with LA

  9. imaybeacatIRl

Super late, and Poehling was completely defenseless. Deserved.

Definitely not clean, but an ejection seems a bit harsh. The puck was long gone, so it’s definitely a penalty and a major isn’t egregious, but it also was pure shoulder to chest. If there’d been head contact the ejection would make more sense.

I suppose I’d rather them err on the side of protecting the players, but I doubt this’ll set any precedent. There will probably be a decapitation in the second period that goes uncalled

  11. MaximAfinogenov716

Shitty hit but I despise the fact that if Poehling jumped right back up and was ok this would have all been called completely different. Officials need to make calls based on what they are and not their feelings.

Twenty years ago, that’s a clean hit. In today’s game, where you’re actually expected to consider the safety of everybody, that puck wasn’t close to him, and he kind of left his feet to make the hit. I’m not going to say it’s borderline, because it’s not, but it’s a hit I think many fans have been used to seeing for a long time.

  13. mastergriggy

While I hate Vegas, agree this was completely stupid, and am happy a call was made….I really wish impact to other player didn’t play into it. It’s dirty or not dirty, and if it is dirty, call it the same way you would all the plays.

  14. Uhokay1970

He did glide not skate so no charge, contact was chest first, no elbows, no leap or push to increase impact, was just a regular hit…. Just lost the puck. Hard to defend a Major penalty call here. What was the call? Seems like he got tossed because Poehling was soft.

  15. OkGarlic6559

Who did he think he was? Pietranglo on Draisaitl?

  16. biscuitsbasket

His head being turned to face the left… his poor neck

  17. YungBeefaroni

The plastic Vegas fans are out in full force tonight lmao

  18. bugabooandtwo

A bit late, but only showing the slow motion replay makes it look worse. Dude was gliding in the last 20 feet and in real time hit him barely a second after he touched the puck. Pure shoulder hit, too.

  19. One of the dirtiest hits you can make, guy looking at the puck which is long gone and gets completely blindsided. Hopefully McNabb gets what he deserves.

  20. GoldConversation24

“Hard hit man it’s playoffs gotta be ready” Pk is such a POS

  21. 414WhySoSerious

Am I tripping or did PK Subban just try and justify it during the intermission?

  22. leahkateb

This looks like intrusive thoughts in hockey form

  23. Clean_Principle_2368

Wildly late. Should cost him a game.

  24. Ladymistery

and so he should have. that was a terrible hit

  25. ShoheiHoetani

It’s clearly predatory when you consider how far away he was when he decided to hit him. The distance traveled is INSANE. The wider video angle shows him closer to the benches when he lines up Poehling.

  26. Odd-Most-9186

Not a fan of either, McNabb need to make a better choice in that situation!! Never want to see anyone get hurt!! Vegas fans are very green and have not gotten a clear understanding of the rules!

  27. Maleficent-Ear-2450

I thought he ripped a hole in space time for a second the way the boards rippled

  28. Classic-Exchange-511

Don’t like that at all, he deserves to be tossed. Poor kid

  29. SigSauerPower320

I get wanting to finish your check…. But FFS, he had enough time to order a fuckin pizza between his last contact with the puck and the hit. There’s not a chance in hell he couldn’t have stopped.

  30. mothertrucker2017

Hope Poehhling isn’t too messed up from that dirty hit. He sure didn’t look too good for a while.

  31. Evenspace-

Glad the consensus here is it’s a dirty hit that’s deserving of a 5. I always run these calls by my buddy who’s a high level official, two big things he called out, blindside and the fact that head contact into boards caused an injury.

Apparently this is a major concern for the NHLPA and these are the types of hits they don’t want which makes sense when you see how Poehling looked after.

  32. Late, dirty, illegal hit, also looks like head contact on second angle replay. Possibly fine / suspension. Hopefully.

  33. I’m watching now, and damn, you heard his helmet hit the glass. He didn’t return.

  34. Impossible-Mud-4160

I disagree with the rule that head contact is fine as long as it’s not the initial contact.

All that does is stop deliberate headshots.

When CTE became a big issue the NRL (rugby league) in Australia changed the rules to say it didn’t matter where initial contact was, if the hit deflected up into the head, it was a head high tackle.

That drastically reduced concussions and hasn’t reduced the number of big hits.

You have to be in control of your stick at all times, otherwise you get called for high sticking – it should be the same with hits.

  35. McNabb has been known as a reckless head hunter since his LA King days.

Luckily he plays on the league’s most favored team. I’ve seen him getting away with minimal punishment for his dirty & dangerous hits time and time again, and it sickens me.

  36. ithinkitsnotworking

And all he’ll get is a fine of a few grand. The DPS is a f**king joke.
