I think Tocchet's track record is pretty spotty, tbh. I think he made the playoffs once in Arizona? Then once in Van? Love him when he's on the TV, but I'm not convinced he's the best motivator or tactician.

Why hold Cassidy from speaking with the Oilers and any other team? Because even though he was fired, he is still UNDER CONTRACT. Happens in business every day. It's all part of his contract: Cassidy gets paid but remains under the control of VGK. What's MGT up to? Cassidy is an assetunder contract, and any team trying to acquire his services will compensate Vegas.

Here's why the chess analogy is difficult and kind of doesnt work: the commodity in chess, especially in person, is watching the best compete against the best, or at times watching random celebrities who kind of know how to play. Its basically a spectator sport, of sorts. You're not going to sell that if one of the competitors, particularly one who dominates every competition, is a computer screen.
With music, the commodity is the music itself. There's no competition. If I'm a consumer, i buy the song because i like it, and that closes the loop on the transaction. Despite the romanticism, music is not for everyone, that perhaps goes double for live music. Concerts and festivals, choirs, etc. Lots of ppl will look at that tradeoff and say "no big deal, i just like the song".
I hate that this is the case, but i kind of think that the arduous way of learning, playing, and creating music will be looked at as the "old fashioned way" at some point. Similar to how we needed hands on labor like smithing, sewing, and pottery to create things we needed, now we just mass produce in a factory. We'll keep around the old ways because theyre quaint, but society as a whole will likely move on.
I feel like the Blues are lurking around trying to pull off something big – I don't think Ottawa got anything the Blues need.
