Living in Seattle and having seen them struggle mightily last season, I’d say Wright is gonna have a rough rookie season based on coaching style. This team needs an identity and not sure Hakstol is the man to lead the charge
Thanks for the insights. As a Kraken season ticket holder, I was extremely happy with everything the team was able to accomplish last season (great facilities, exciting games, etc). It was a huge undertaking. The only complaint we kept coming up with was Hakstol playing Gru WAY too much, or not giving Driedger enough games, however you want to look at it. We would like to have seen more healthy competition for net duties. I was also a bit disappointed at the negative view of the team from multiple places considering it was just our first season. More people than I expected seemed to think Vegas is the new norm rather than a crazy exception. I guess I felt more pity for those poor people for not just being able to enjoy the inaugural season for what it is with literally zero pressure.
Whenever I read or watch something about The Kraken and this coming season, I don’t hear much commentary on the off ice acquisitions they have made, like hiring Toronto’s goalie coach (Briere) and adding Dave Lowry to the coaching staff. Additionally, just having the depth of our own AHL team should make a little bit of a difference, one would think. Speaking of depth, the elephant in the room is who is going to get injured, and how do our depth pieces match up to other teams, like Donato, Kuhlman, Geekie, Lind, Fleury, Evans…Poturalski? He doesn’t even come up in these conversations and he lead the AHL in scoring the last two seasons. He could be our 4th line center after camp.
Just adding Burakovsky, Bjorkstrand, Schultz and a healthy Kempny, this team is going to be incredibly exciting to watch. Throw in a healthy Tanev and Schwartz, not to mention Beniers getting a full season…and possibly a Shane Wright in protected minutes with some veteran wingers, and I am surprised when I hear people say this team will be lucky to hit .500. We may not have a super star (yet), but this team will have some serious depth and will be very hard for o play against.
