  1. As a wild fan I loved donato I thought he was going to be a wild for at least 5 more year, I’m happy about getting rid of dubnyk he just suck I am hoping that Matt Murray comes to Minnesota but we are not going to be a great team until praise and surer retires or we draft really well. So not surprised that all this is happening. Last year I wanted the wild to tank for the 1 overall pick but nope we had to of just miss the playoffs and get the 9th pick.

  2. Even they carry price might not be a regular season god in the playoffs and high pressure situations he’s the goat

  3. It is sad to see Dubnyk go, but I think it is for the best. I expect him to bounce back a bit in San Jose next year. He was having some personal issues last season off the ice with family. I think it affected his game quite a bit.

  4. Well Guerin did come from the Pittsburgh front office. Can’t say I’m surprised he’s making questionable trades

  5. I think Donato was a tweener in the eyes of the Wild coaches and front office. He showed flashes of being a Top 6/Top 9 player, but wasn't consistent enough to actually earn that ice time in Minnesota. Rather than keeping him around on the 4th line/as a scratch player, they moved him so he could get an opportunity elsewhere. I'm not particularly happy with a 3rd as the return, but my guess is the lower return on Donato was what it took to get the Sharks to take Dubnyk.

  6. Before anyone says anything, the Donato market value thing is likely inflated by his small sample size from a few years ago where he came in for a few games and played amazing

Love the Mete and Kulak respect (more than most habs fans 😂)

  7. Well I guess sharks need to be shorthanded for every game cuz Jonner is a god when he is on the PK (jokes but I am scared and excited for the next season)

  8. I think Guerin just wants to do a major shakeup and completely change the room, he must feel it's too much of a complacent attitude there

  9. It also kinda feels like maybe the Sharks wanted to get Donato for nothing in order to take Dubnyk

  10. I wonder if you have to look at both trades together. So basically San Jose gets a good player in Donato by taking the Dubnyk contract off Minnesota's books for the year

  11. They are making cap space. They are freeing up roster slots for younger guys. Like EVERYONE knows they are doing…

  12. There's obviously some spilled tea that I've missed about Logan Couture. What did he do?

  13. Unfortunately, this all started when Paul Fenton signed Mats Zuccarello to that monster contract last offseason, which immediately filled Donato’s future role with the team as a top 6 winger, which is where Donato needs to be in order to thrive. They can’t play Zuccarello in a bottom 6 role with his contract and so it lead to Donato being buried, and Guerin thought that it wasn’t fair to do that to him anymore this upcoming season knowing what he can do, so he shipped him out. Good attitude, good scorer, just buried due to past regime mistakes.

  14. Donato didn't have a spot after Fenton signed Zucc, Dubnyk was awful & Guerin has been outspoken about getting a goalie, Staal is part of the old guard that got complacent, Koivu same. Wild take a center tonight and Dumba is gone after Brodin & Soucy signed.

  15. they are likely going to draft lundell, the dubnyk trade was a win, donato was a loss. if you combine the two trades minnesota still wins as dubnyk was one of the worst starting goalies over the last two seasons

  16. Best guess is you need to look at Denato as part of the cost for San Jose to take on Dubnyk

  17. I understand the Donato situation. This past season Donato couldn’t get much time in the lineup. He’s still a relatively young talent with potential, however he wasn’t getting the necessary ice time to develop properly. With the fact that Fiala became the defacto star player for the Wild this season, and Kaprizov coming in this upcoming season Donato would have had a harder time cracking the lineup. It’s better to trade him to a team that could possibly give him more ice time and get back a pick than let him go in either the expansion draft or free agency for nothing. (Yes he would be an RFA, but seeing as he couldn’t stay in the lineup I didn’t see him getting a qualifying offer.)

Dubnyk is now on the last year of his contract. The last two seasons he’s been declining, this year in particular. He’s had off ice things to deal with this past season so that’s completely understandable in regards to his compete level not being there. I think he and his family just needed a change of scene. He was great when he came to town, and I love him for it. One of my favorite tenders behind Bäckström & Kuemper in fact. However he just doesn’t seem to have it here anymore. Perhaps he could turn it around in San Jose. I hope he does. Retaining 2.5 mil is better than buying him out and paying for another year for him to sign elsewhere.

  18. My perspective as a sharks fan is that they are trying to bring in competition and split starting time a little more than they have been. Martin Jones has been used a lot since coming to San Jose and its theorized thats a big reason for his sharp decline.

I see this move as a cheap option to create a 1a 1b situation and hope for some positive regression to at least the mean. I mean we know what both goalies have been capable of in the past. I just see it as low risk for the precarious cap situation

  19. Easy to understand Donato's deal: Guerin is down to 4 forwards left who are signed beyond this coming season. It isn't about talent, it's about future flexibility. All the guys he is bringing in have one year left. The entire forward crew needs rebuilt. Defense is set. Now the news that Guerin has signed Talbot to replace DOOBnyk. It is all starting to make sense now. Guerin has a plan. Something Paul Fenton did not. Fenton's only accomplishment in Minnesota was giving Boston and Nashville better players than he took back.

  20. Mn wild are in a rebuild. Everything you said was a waste of breath. DOObnyk has been the starter for the wild for 6 years, get his name right.
